Joeibaby-thank you so much I hope so too! Working for a big corporation like Wells Fargo and having that many people pay for insurance they shouldn't put so many restriction and loop holes on people.

I am in Boston area too. I went to information session in January. Had a consult with the surgeon. I met with the nurse, nutritionist, sleep study, psych, nurse and nutritionist again, follow up with surgeon, 4 week pre op classes, followed up with surgeon again and I am ready to go on the 7th. A solid 6 month process. It all depends on your insurance too. They all have different criteria. I have BCBS PPO. My BMI was just over the tresh hold. With history of being overweight constant yo yo weights and family health history, I was approved with no issues.

Geri thank you for sharing.. I wish you a speedy recovery!! I like how you said "commit to the sleeve" from what I've read it's committing to the lifestyle! Everyone seems to say with the band what you've said.. which terrifies me that I wouldn't be able to get lettuce down!!

Smb I'm sending all the positive vibes your way! It's baffling they're dragging their feet about this for you!!

I agree, my family and friends are totally supportive but at the same time I get a feeling they're slightly judging me.. I'm glad ya'll are engaging me! This is such a treat to talk to similiar people [emoji41][emoji41]

Hopefully not too much longer. Yeah I feel that same way but hey I just want to feel better and be a better person for my babies and myself and no one else.

So who cares what their opinions are. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

YES WE CAN!

Never forget it's the jealous people that knock you down! And SAME. I just want to be healthy and able to move like I used to.. like what if I want to have kids? I'm basically walking around like I'm 9 months pregnant now.. I couldn't imagine any added weight OR most importantly being an active mommy!

PREACH :1295_raised_hands_tone1::1295_raised_hands_tone1::1295_raised_hands_tone1:

I don't understand why people cant keep their mouths shut and just be happy for someone that they can live longer and enjoy them selves instead of putting them down and making them feel worse about themselves. <_<

Trust me it sucks I just had a little on in February and I thought my knees would give out. She's my little miracle though <3

So my in insurance changed halfway. I started in October but my insurance changed in January. So originally I needed 6 mos of supervised nutrition meetings but with the new insurance there was no set number. I ended up doing 6 months anyway until all of my other requirements could be met. Tyne mist time consuming was getting my bipap. I did the sleep study in Dec with Anthem then in January when I was to get the machine the Health Design Plus doesn't cover the facility I went to. I had a heck of a time trying to get the info from then to wherever it needed to go and my Dr kept saying your pulmonologist deals with that. I did not have a pulmonologist. I was ordered the sleep study for the surgery. Finally got it in March. But I needed cardiac clearance dt history, pcp support letter, the sleep study, psych eval, EGD and to lose 12.5 lbs. and a slew of blood work and urine tests. Luckily I want a smoker or anything so one less hurdle to overcome. I would suggest if you don't already have sleep apnea and use a machine get tested early in case it takes some time for you as well. I also had to do the sleep study twice. The first time to watch me sleep then the second time to watch me sleep with the equipment and find the right settings for me.

I am stuck here at home due to recent back surgery so it is nice to come on here and tak with people like me feeling th same as I do! I can NOT wait to get this new surgery done. I have been reading everyone's stories and I love it. Makes me feel normal! My sister was going to get the sleeve as well but she backed out. My husband doesn't want me to get it done mainly because hes worried about cutting my body. I told him your either with me or against me lol. I'm sure he will come around. I have three months to prepare him. He's been great with everything else Ive been through so I dont doubt he will get n the skinny train too! Haha that seems funny saying skinny and me in the same sentence.

Also, wanted to mention I started using this really helpful app called Fat Secret. It tracks your calorie intake, carbs, sugar and fat. It also has a goal weight section, and an activity area (if your into that kinda thing) I love it. Ive actually used that same app for 7 years. It helps for when you go to your nutrition visits to recall your diet. It will really come in handy when we have the surgery to tract our Protein

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
