Hello everyone,

i am truly excited about my post op recovery. However, I am having an issue with my Protein Shakes. I started with Syntrax Nectar whey isolate and it would make my stomach churn and straight through me. Not in a good way! I consulted my the nutritionist and she had me switch to Orgain organic Protein ( plant based) same situation. Has any one had this issue? The concern is that even though I am taking my protein shakes, they are not staying in my system. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Jerseygirl21,

I found Unjury products to be good, and now they have a non-whey product. You can find it at https://www.unjury.com/planted-protein-chocolate-container.html. I've never tried it because I didn't have any issues with whey, but they are a known and trusted brand.

Are you mixing with milk? Dairy causes a lot of us issues post op. My previous lactose intolerance became a serious issue for about two years post op, then gradually faded. I still don't drink milk or eat ice cream. All other dairy is okay now, in reasonable amounts. I did best on nectar but four or five other brands tore me up.

Otherwise, it could be sweeteners, additives, whatever. You'll have to find what works. It might be a lot of trial and error. I ordered samples online, and that helped.

Good luck,

Cheri

Thank you for your responses. The Orgain required two caps of the powder and it ended up like slush with our 4oz serving of Water. It was not tasty!!! So even though the Syntrax is a little too sweet for my liking I tried it again with water. Thankfully I was able to keep it in my system. Yay! Cheri have you tried almond milk? I am ok with the yogurt and cheese in this stage 2 diet. Trial and error and money lol! Let's hope this goes well because I need to keep the Protein.

Sweetie, I'm seven years out and past shakes. ;) But I mixed with Water and was fine. Later, coffee - that was my favorite.

Don't give up on Protein, it's the key to success!

I am having the same problem! I am 12 days post op and I have moved on to some mushy foods which hasn't been so bad;however I am still having problems with my Protein Shake. My drs and NUT want me to have my Protein shake for Breakfast, but it literally takes me about 3 hrs to finish and I know you're not supposed to drink with your meals, but my shake ends up being my breakfast and lunch and then here it is 2:15 and I haven't finished my shake or gotten any other fluids. This shake makes me nauseous and I have tried a variety. I have never had any problems with shakes prior to surgery.

Not sure if you are aware of the controversy regarding GENEPRO, just FYI. I am a user and am happy with it, BUT...

It is physically impossible for 30 grams of anything in a tablespoon. The real figure is 15 grams. However, Genepro claims a propriatary formula which allows for better absorption of the Protein which is equivalent to 30 grams of the competitor's formula.

Many people think this is poppycock. I have read the documentation and tend to believe it is at least in part possible. However, they are being sued for false advertising.

Just a FYI. Buyer beware.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
