One more day and I will be in TJ getting my Plication! I have told no one in my family. Any tips on how to keep it a secret?

Recommended Posts

I am scared, excited. My family would never understand the struggle I have with food. All of my family is diabetic. I am sure I will be one day as well. I am doing this surgery for my 9 month old daughter and for myself. I want to be healthy and I want to do everything in my power to do so. I have struggled with my weight for 15 years and I'm tired. I hope this all works I'm so tired and I'm barely two weeks in the preop diet stage.

You HAVE to tell someone about your surgery in case of complications. It can be a friend, or whatever.. but if you get sick and need to go to the hospital, who will drive you? Who picks up your slack if you become bed-ridden? Who is taking care of your daughter?

Chances are excellent that none of these things happen.. but things can and do go wrong, so you need to prepare yourself and at least one other person for those possibilities.

People that live by themselves can afford to keep it all a secret, after all, if they get sick, it only impacts themselves. But people that live in a house with others have to tell at least one person in that house (or someone close by that can come over and help). And if you live alone with your daughter, then you definitely need someone nearby that can help make sure you are well enough to take care of her.

Once that is all sorted out, it's easy enough to hide the surgery from others. Always eat (drink!) alone. If you are moving gingerly, explain that you fell down some steps while on vacation, etc.

Good luck!!

I absolutely agree with @Berry78. You NEED to tell someone everything. Where you are going, contact numbers, all of it. Be safe and best of luck!

I too was reluctant to tell family and I too have all sorts of issues in my family tree (high bp and diabetes). Everyone has high bp and one sister is diabetic. I eventually told my family and was amazed at how supportive they are. No judgement, just a desire to see me healthy. We now can talk openly about my upcoming surgery which for me, was a burden to carry alone. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
