July 17th Surgery! How much time off work?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, so I am very torn with how much recovery time I actually need. I had the lapband and was sore for 3 days, I milked it and took two weeks off. This time around I dont want to take time off I dont need ( I have kids now)- so how many days off would is appropriate? I really need and appreciate the feed back!

I had my surgery Dec 21st 2012. It was at year end on purpose because I knew I would have all that time to recover. I could have honestly gone back in a week but I'm glad I had an extra week to chill. I've seen people go back in about 7- 10 days and do fine, but every person is different. Just remember to take it easy, no lifting for 10 days post op and if you need to sit and rest, do it. I felt fine but I was just tired. Around 8PM I hit a wall and I was done for the day. It took me a few weeks to really feel like myself.

That's such a tough thing to answer, and really only you will know when you are good to go back to work. Many people go back in a week or less. I took off three weeks, felt fine after the first 7 days and almost went back to work, only to have fatigue hit me like a brick the second week. I just wanted to share with you because I thought I was all set after 7 days, and was not.

Thank you guys for sharing your specific situations. You guys are right-I will def be based on the individual and perhaps even the work. I work from home for my 1st job so Im thinking a week off is enough as Im sitting on my butt all day lol. My 2nd job which is home care nursing out in the field I will likely take 3 weeks off. I am just really scared about the lethargy /foggy headedness. Lets see how it plays out. Thanks again!!

Just remember: Protein and hydration, take a break when you need to. You'll be great.

Just wanted to stop by and say congrats on the surgery date! We're getting sleeved on the same day. :) Will keep you in my thoughts! I've scheduled a week off of work then doing 1/2 days the next week (11am-3pm) if I can handle it. Maybe you can do a few 1/2 days to slowly ease back into working.

I am taking 3 weeks off. I don't know if I will need it but if I need to scale back I will.

I am lucky enough to be able to take 8-12 weeks. Right now I am taking 8 maybe 9 weeks. I want to get a good start and take time to get my head around it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
