I am going to be starting my solid foods soon and have a question about measuring my food. How do you measure what 2 oz. of chicken or steak is without cutting it all up?

For example - if my husband and I are sharing a piece of grilled chicken. How do I know how much 2 oz. is to cut off for myself?

Thanks in advance :)

You should buy a scale for measuring food. That's what works best for me ..

You can use a measuring cup.
1 cup = 8oz
1/4 cup = 2 oz

I have little 4oz containers with lids that I put my food in.

I thought about that but in my nutrition class they said it's about volume - not weight.

I hope they gave a little more information on that. 2 ounces of cheetos will not satisfy anyone like 2 ounces of meat, but it will have a greater volume. Density and volume are both important. Since most meats have near the same relative density, measure out 2 ounces of that and compare that to your thumb and let that be your guide in the beginning.

But how do you know what 2 ounces is? That is where I am not sure.

Practice. I weighed everything the forst couple weeks. Now I can eyeball it. But I intend to weigh every couple weeks to make sure I dont lose track.

Buy a food scale and weigh everything. I'm almost 9 months post-op, and I weigh everything that goes in my body. I have a travel portable food scale and a big one at home. I'd be lost without them.

2 ounces of meat is measured by weight with a scale. 2 ounces of milk is measured by volume with a measuring cup. That's the problem with the imperical scale. Most people leave off the "fluid" modifier when talking about volume. The metric system is so much more clear with grams vs milliliters. There really is very little confusion with the metric system.

I agree with the poster that implied weight is more important than volume. 2 oz of meat is like the size of two thumbs. 2 oz of salad is *way* more than that. I have a kitchen scale and use it almost every day.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
