SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE

Recommended Posts

Here we go again!I actually feel fine after my surgery, at least well enough to host one of these challenges.

This challenge will run from June 16, 2017 through August 11, 2017. This will give us a total of 9 weigh ins. I will do my best to post to the spreadsheet within 1 - 2 day of receiving your weight but I will be recovering from surgery, then working three jobs and taking 3 classes so if it takes me a few extra days I am sorry but I WILL have it updated as soon as possible!! Please note that I will recalculate the figures as soon as I can following the Friday weigh in - so your weight percentages may be a little off...

I have made these Friday weigh ins because that will allow us to start as soon as possible. You may post your weight at anytime during the week if Friday is not your weigh in day!

This challenge is for everyone. If you are pre op, post op, in maintenance or looking for some accountability; this challenge is for you! The rules and link to the spreadsheet are below!

Procedures:
Please Post Your Starting Weight (Weight on or around June 16th) Goal Weight (what you would like to weigh at the end of the challenge) at the start of the challenge on June, 16, 2017. Remember this goal weight is only for the end of the challenge, not your ending goal weight!!

You can cut/paste this below and fill it in on your post -

Goal Weight:
Current Weight:
Today's Date:

Rules:
1. I will be awarding a prize to 2 lucky participants! The winners will be selected at random an the only thing you need to do to be eligible for the drawing is log your weight each week!
2.Post your weight on this thread every Friday. Specifically 6/16, 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28, 8/4, 8/11
3. If you change your screen name please let me know.
4. If you miss 2 or more weigh ins, I will assume you no longer want to participate and your name will be removed from the spreadsheet.
5. If you miss a weigh in on Friday, no problem. Just post it asap.
6. We are all here to support each other, if you post a question anyone can answer.

7. You will know your weight is updated on the spreadsheet once I've liked your post!

The link to the spreadsheet is below! Have fun, and good luck with this challenge!!!

Remember we are all here to support each other! I look forward to running another challenge with you!

Yay! Another challenge! I can't wait. Especially since i just got a new full time job and am trying to figure out a way to stay hydrated and satiated while being on my feet 8+ hours a day. Hope everything is going well for you! Congrats on your surgery!

@Torriluv87 I'm hoping this will be helpful in figuring out your new schedule! Thank you! I am doing much better than I thought I was going to be!

@klette0147 I did not have my muscles cut into this time and I am doing okay pain wise as long as I stay on top of my pain meds. I take 4 mg of dilaudid every 4 hours. I tried to cut my dose down to 2mg but then regretted it as the pain came back stronger. My surgeon had called later this afternoon and I told him about needing to take the 4mg and trying the 2 mg. He said he is certain I will be able to reduce my dosage in the next couple days but it is still pretty recent right now. I actually feel well enough to hang out with friends as long as I can just sit and talk! Thank you for the well wishes!!

I'm glad you are feeling well after your surgery. Hopefully that will continue.

I will be on a five week road trip during the challenge, so hopefully this will be a good way to keep my weight from going up while I am having to eat out so often. I am definitely taking my scale with me. I don't want to come home and find out I gained too much.

Thank you! I hope it will continue also!

That sounds like a good idea! Also take into account Water weight on this trip though! When I am in the car for a long time I start to retain water in my legs I thing. Make sure you take breaks and walk around to avoid this. Another thing that can make you retain water is eating at restaurants. Even if you pick the healthy sounding dish, restaurants usually use a lot of salt that can make you retain water. I'm not telling you to not weigh yourself, just don't let it get you too down if you see a small gain!

Glad you're doing well! Count me in for the challenge. I should be cleared to exercise in a couple of weeks, assuming my groin incisions continue healing. Excited to see what I can do with my new body!

Any tips for setting a goal challenge weight? I will be doing my preop diet and having my surgery while this challenge is going on.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
