I struggle with cravings and hunger a few days before my period every month. I have tried to find alternatives to help during those days. If I'm craving sweets, I go for sugar free pudding or sugar free Reese's cups. If it's something salty I may have some salted nuts or even bakes veggie crisps. It helps that I know it's only hormones and only temporary, so I don't really feel like a failure during that time if I eat a little more than normal.

Little tip with lush product called Sakura (bath bomb).

Crumble it up and add half of one to your towels and bedsheet wash instead of washing powder. It won't dye, stain and cleans everything beautifully with the added smell of the product.

Love from Scotland - day 140 of period from hell.

Thanks for the tip!

140 days of period?! That's terrible! I had been getting my period every 1-2 weeks and used ally it's only 3-4 days very light and I never have cramps. Lately it can last anywhere from 4-10 days and can be heavy with bad cramps. They found I had a polyp in my uterus and removed it last Friday. I'm hoping that will help regulate them! Have you been evaluated??

That's true. I try not to feel like a failure but I also want to stay in control of my cravings and indulgences and that time of the month my body wants a free for all lol. Sometimes it sucks to be a woman! Thanks for the tips!

Yeah I have PCOS but it's reacting to the nexplanon implant and mini pill. Tranexamic acid doesn't help so I'm away to doctor today to get it out and maybe hospital to get a "girly check" as hubby calls it lol.

Gotta love pcos!

I have PCOS too. It's so fun..*rolls eyes*

I lost one of my ovaries already to it and I hadn't had any cysts in years due to birth control keeping it under control but after surgery I've had many. *sigh* Now my GYN stopped all birth control to do more testing since it wasn't really helping anyway.

I too have pcos and endometriosis and have had horrible periods for years...so they advised me to take the birth control shot which made me bleed for about a year straight...fun stuff. I finally got mirena which stopped the bleeding.

@teacupnosaucer Yeah, I live with my parents...They are also both overweight. They are happy I am making this change for myself but are not ready to make the change for themselves...So they buy all sorts of crap. they have, after much begging, stopped putting it in the kitchen. But I know where they keep it. I try not to think about it but I know it's there and when I'm having a really bad day it's hard to just be like, there's nothing there.

That's true about the head hunger vs actual hunger. I will try the whole waiting 20 minutes thing. Thanks for that tip!

@Ms. Brightside Haha! pampering is always nice! I like to get my nails done and that is my pampering though I can only do that every couple weeks. I can't now though because I will be having plastic surgery on my extra skin on June 5th...I will just have to get it taken off so I figure I might as well wait! I might get a pedicure though. I have never really done one of those bath bomb things...I'm not even sure I fit in my bath tub yet! I am pretty tall ( a little over 5'10) so bathtubs aren't really comfy lol

I"m 5'6" and I have to scrunch down to take a bath, but the Lush bath bombs and bubble bars are so worth it! ;)

I have found that during my period my body needs more calories than I normally do especially if am going heavy at the gym. I have accepted that but now that Im aware of it I can make sensible choices.

my sympathies, my mom deals with this same thing. she works really hard to stay healthy but my dad (who is obese like me) just keeps buying sooooo muuuuuuch junk food. I'm glad they're at least attempting to meet you halfway, even if they're not willing to stop bringing it into the house 100%. Hopefully some other strategies will help you so that having it around isn't quite such a landmine for you.

@teacupnosaucer Yeah, it can be really hard. I wish they would see my success as motivation to lose their excess weight but I'm not going to try and force them to try and lose weight. I know when anyone tried to make me do it and I wasn't ready it just failed miserably and I ended up angry....

You're 100% right. Good for you for keeping that perspective. I'm the same way... I keep being really positive and happy about my surgery in the hopes my father will come to the idea of looking into it himself... but on his own terms and as his own idea LOL.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
