Am I eating too much protein?

Recommended Posts

Hi I was wondering if I was eating too much Protein? I am 4 weeks post op. My doctor said get between 60 and 80 g of protein with Protein Shakes. But I haven't been given a list of calories or how much protein is too much. What has everyone else heard? IMG_0908.JPG

My nutritionist said that you need 80 grams of Protein for women and 90 grams for men. Too much can cause damage to your kidneys.

I have a goal of 60 grams but I do have a recipe of shake in case I don't feel like eating much that day and it's a total of 120 grams of Protein. But not sure what would be too much protein. Maybe more than 150 or so. Not too sure. Sorry. I'll have to text my dietician that question.
I was given a minimum of 800 calories and no more than 1250. But that depends on what you're nutritionist recommends.

While it is true that too much Protein can damage your kidneys, it would take an inordinate amount, well over 2 grams per pound body weight to cause that as well as lack of Fluid intake. Then it would have to be done over a long period of time. While it is possible, it is very unlikely that a bariatric patient will be able to take in that much protein day after day for a long enough period of time to cause damage.

@mxpxchik11

Your day looks perfect to me. You are killing it.

60 grams of Protein is the bare minimum you need so you don't get sick. That isn't the amount for optimal health.

I have been over 100 most days for over 20 months, Kidneys are fine.

I try to have a gram of protein for each pound of lean mass.

I'm 5'10", my NUT told me she wants me between 90-100 grams of Protein a day. I'm currently 17 weeks post op and have lost 51 pounds since surgery so it seems to be working well for me.

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
