Bariatric surgeon in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently interested in using Dr. Illan for my surgery, but it was pointed out to me that he is not listed on https://asmbs.org/patients/find-a-provider. Should I be concerned that he is not? I understand he is a weight loss surgeon and not a Bariatric surgeon, but when I look at his credentials it seems he has extensive training in Bariatric surgery, and I'm left confused. Any input is appreciated!

Great question!

I am a Director-At-Large at the ASMBS and feel qualified to answer this question :)

ASMBS is the "Amercian" Society of Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Illan is not an American surgeon and doesn't operate in the states. He is President of the Mexican Society.

I'm attaching some recent certificates/credentials that aren't posted on the TeamMX site. @Bill Yanezcan explain them more in detail if you're interested.

You are more than Welcome to ask any of us that have used Dr. Illan for our Bariatric Surgery. He performed my Sleeve on Feb. 24th 2017 and I can't even explain how Amazing the experience was and the results are Wonderful.

Thank you Alex! Out of curiosity, why are there some Mexico surgeons listed on there and some aren't? Do they need to have had training in the US?

ASMBS does allow international surgeons to be listed. Unless a surgeon practices in the US, there's really no purpose.

Why do my posts that state my Mexican surgeon, is a member of ASMBS, keep getting deleted? Are you only allowing comments about Dr. Illian in this thread and censure comments about all other surgeons?

I am keeping this up but removed the name of your surgeon.

The surgeon applies to be a member of the AMBS. I think it misleads people into thinking some board or committee elected the member on their merits.

i think the comments made by the patients of Dr. Illan speak better than a member of the AMBS.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
