Does anyone smoke? I stopped before my RNY on 4/12 but I'm feeling like I'm giving up food I want my cigarettes backs. Any advice..... besides the obvious.

You stopped to have gastric bypass to improve your life and health. Why in the Hell would you want to start smoking again? If you do, then question why you had the gastric bypass in the first place. Continue on a more healthy path; enjoy you new life and be thankful for the gift you were given.

I smoked for 20 plus years. The day my surgeon said yes, i stopped smoking. Never thought i could. I made a promise to myself to live better. I have not had one since 1/24.. Ive tried alot before and it was never easy, this time was different. I don't miss it. Look foward to the bigger picture.. it will get easier

No judgement here. It's a slippery slope. Give urself time, in a few wks the smell will turn ur stomach. Find something to do that u can track like climbing 5 flights everytime u get the urge and ur about to smoke. Ive smoked on/off for 20yrs n i quit 11/2016 in prep 4 surgery 1/6. Wont lie. Ive had 5 cig in last mo to calm me from choking out someone harrassing me but i snapped out of it n punish myself w the dang stairs now. I hate those damn stairs, but it works, dual purpose.[emoji38][emoji38] Good luck. Stay strong. Quitting is hard but U can do it.

One word... Ulcer. My surgeon said its not a matter of if but when for bypass patients who smoke. I know how hard it is, I had to quit too but I know we can do it! Don't listen to your addict brain, listen to the rational side. Good luck!

You've done so much good for yourself. Why ruin it with one little cigarette that does more harm than good? Keep up the good work of not smoking. It has more benefits. [emoji846]

I smoked many years ago and quit cold turkey twice. It has been close to 24 yr since I had a cigarette. I cannot stand to be around it any more. The smell just makes me want to hurl. (This is a good thing. I don't think I will ever want another one). food for thought (no pun intended), 2 yr ago, I was at work (doc office). My bro-in-law showed up. When I got up front, he was pacing and then proceeded to tell me that my husband/his brother had collapsed at work (ga power). They had already shocked him mult times with no response. We get to the hospital & cardiologist is waiting with us, for him to arrive. We go through history. Never had any sugar, bp, cholesterol, or lipid issues. The doctor they asked if he smoked, I answered yes. The response was always....well, there's the culprit. He had to be flown from hometown hosp to Emory because he had traumatic brain injuries. All could have been avoided. I did tell him that if I ever smelled smoke again on him, I was gone. Never will be choice through that again because of non compliance.

Yes my specialist asked me several times if I smoked because the surgery is pretty much a waste of time.
I assured him I lost my husband to lung cancer when he was 61 so saw the results of this bad habit first hand.
You will feel much better if you stop completely. I am an ex smoker myself

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
