Hey all going on my 4th week (Surgery was 03/27). In the beginning I had no urge to poop so starting April 7th was taking benafiber and Miralax here and there. Since I started puree I had the urge more, but last night I ended up bleeding rectally. Not a ton but some. Today it got stuck, took a glycerine suppository and little more blood. I am very scared and don't know what to do. It is making me push a lot and so afraid of hemroids. Suggestions please.

It is important to get that stuff out. Get a fleet enema and maybe some exam type gloves. With the gloves, you can carefully reach in and pull it out without straining. The enema will lubricate things and make you go too.

If there is a lot of blood, or the bleeding won't stop, you'll have to be seen.

You need to be proactive making sure you have success every couple of days.

Miralax, milk if magnesia, Smooth Move tea, metamucil, other Fiber supplements, etc.

Good luck!

I alternated between diarrhea and Constipation for most of the first 4 months after surgery. I used Citrucel early on to help regulate my bowels, it's methylcellulose and won't produce gas in your stomach or intestines...that was important for me because any gas pains really bothered me for a few months.
Now I use Benefiber, as it's completely undetectable in anything I add it to, plus it helps with your gut flora.
The only other tip I have is to rethink your body's normal bowel habits. I only go maybe twice a week now, sometimes 3 times. I'm taking in so much less food than previously, and it's more digestible food, too, so less solid waste. Good luck, and I hope you're feeling better soon :)

I ended up in the ER the day after my birthday with fecal impaction and urine retention (male). Two enemas and the doctor shoving his arm up to the elbow later I was able to go. I strain and try to have a BM every day. I am six months post op from my RNY surgery.

I don't ever want to go through that again. Ever.

Be prepared ahead of time. Don't wait for it until the urge to go is irresistible and then it's too late to take anything to soften things up. I used to take benefiber and all that but the important thing with that is that if you don't take the right amount of Water or you don't void it on time, it will make you more constipated. If i haven't gone in two days, I take milk of magnesia. If I wait for the third day, things have migrated downstairs and nothing helps. No enema, no pills and no milk of magnesia.

Thanks everyone. I started up miralax and benefiber yesterday. Also did Smooth Move tea. Had the same problem again today, straining bad. I had to use a fleet suppository yesterday and today. And I found out the blood was the actually start of my period, which is now full force so that even makes things worse. I cannot even tell now if these cramps I am having are menstrual or poop cramps. It is so uncomfortable. I just want to poop normal. And my rectum/anus is so sore. I am seeing nutritionist shortly, maybe she can suggest something.

I was having similar issues -- by NUT suggested Psyllium Husks and a "Squatty Potty". It's helped tons.

Try an enema. A cup of Fluid up in there will loosen things more than a suppository.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
