Guys,

Im about three weeks away from surgery. May 2nd is the big day and I'm starting to have a lot of anxiety. Starting to think maybe I shouldn't do this. This had been something that I have wanted for a long time. Im starting to read about complications which I already knew but now its really starting to hit me. Most patients have a high possibility of major complication in the first 30 days after surgery (thats what I read on one website). Im scared and thinking maybe I should just back out. However, im 28 years old. 5'4 260 and I have BMI of 44.5. So Im wondering if I do not do this will I ever lose weight? Will I always regret it? Will I wonder how my life would of been different? What if I do it and I have a serious complication? Will I regret having the procedure? Anyways please help calm my nerves guys. I need help. What have been some of your concerns?

Do what feels right for you. Give it to God. You can stop at anytime right up to when you are getting wheeled into the room. Take a breath, dont dwell on what can go wrong, instead spend your time on what can go right. Imagine how good you will feel as you lose weight. Think of all the fun shopping you will do. I just finished my 3rd month of 6 month pre op, and all i am focused on is getting to the day. I gave it to God, to open the road and clear the obstacles, if its right it will happen and I will have peace.

I too get scared along the way. I had a colostomy 5 yrs ago and got it reversed. I remember when i read all the things that could go wrong i almost freaked out. I decided not to focus on what could go wrong because to get to point B , I had to go through point A. So as John Wayne says, "courage is being afraid but saddling up anyways". I cowboyed , rather cowgirled up, and went for it. I felt it was the right time. When I awoke from the surgery, i found out I didnt get the reversal because they found a large cyst that ate my ovary and fallopian tube and was making its way to my uterus. I had no idea it was there, no pain, nothing. Going in for that reversal was a Godsend. I had to wait another 10 months to try again for the reversal. It went as easy as pie.

So i am going with my gut. I want to do this and i feel its right and that is what i am doing. If God has other plans He will Detour me.

Have faith, trust what you feel, listen to no one but your inner voice and pray. You will find your answer.

My surgery date is May 1st and at first I was feeling the same way. As soon as I finalized the last of the plans I got extremely nervous and it lasted for a whole week. At one point I was thinking that I was going to worry myself into an ulcer or something and then I wont be physically able to have it done. Luckily that only lasted about a week and now Im more excited than anything. I dont even know what changed. I just woke up one day and felt different. Hopefully you will get over it as well. I agree with the others about praying and follow your instincts. Im guessing its natural to worry about what can go wrong, but maybe you can think more about how your life can change for the better instead. That should help you calm down.

We can certainly do this together since we are in similar situations!

It helped me so much to take the pre-op class. There is such a low complication rate, especially when sticking to your plan. Try and calm down and think more on the logical side instead of the emotional. You are the only one who can ultimately decide, but try not to psyche yourself out too much! I'm May 1st, so I'm in the boat with you!

I felt the same way you did, and I'm much older. I'm 9 months out now, and I wish I had done this at least 10 years ago. But maybe I wouldn't have been ready then. But, if I had done it 10 years ago AND everything went as well as it has now, I would have had 10 years back of my youth that I lost. 10 years of my mental health not screwing with me now. Some people will take offense to that but I'm just talking about myself. Knowing what I know now, and knowing that statistics say the VSG is safer than gall bladder surgery, I regret not doing it sooner. BUT you have to do all your due diligence and make your own decision. I definitely had my fears, even 2nd thoughts, even a few months out. But NO REGRETS for me now. I've also had no complications. Bumps in the road? Yes. Things to work out in my head? Yes. Regrets? No. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I too am questing. I meet again with my nutritionist , SO GLAD! She really went over things and eased my fears. I highly suggest it as it would be different than your initial info visit.

It went well. Actually Better then I expected. I'm sore but other than that I'm fine.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
