    Close to goal?

Haven’t been on here lately. I was banded in 09. Revised to sleeve in May. I have bee heavy all my life. High was 330. Low with band 230. Sleeved at 250. My goal was 225. Now at 210. My nutritionist, dr and trainer All told me to no longer try to loose weight. Just eat well, continue to exercise, tone and build more muscle and see where my weight settles out. They even said they would work with me if I loose too much. This is so very foreign for me. I’m 6 ft tall and now ware 34-36?slim fit pants. Large or xl(slim) shirts. I still think I’m heavy. Trying to get a handle on this. Know it’s a good problem to have. How did you handle it
  2. I was had the Band to sleeve on Friday. Got home late last night. Overall doing ok except for on and off Nausea. I have taken the Med for Nausea. But doesn't seem to help. I'm getting in fluids. Also stomach growling on and off. I can't even think of starting protein drinks. Nothing seems to taste god. Any suggestions
  3. Well back again, I have my Results Review to set up my revision Tuesday. My wife is not thrilled with the thought. It doesn't help that I had foot surgery 2 weeks ago, the Bone has healed well but the incision is still sore, So she is not excited and is very fearful of the revision, She would prefer I just have the band taken out. I am looking to have the revision done in may and would do both the removal and revision at one time. It doesn't help that she had lunch with a friend who's husband is in medical surgical equipment and told her about how they do the surgery etc. and she thinks I well be depressed as we entertain a lot and I wont be able to eat. I too am still thinking going back and forth with this. Again I have such a long history of Family and personal struggle with weight. The band was a good decision in that i have kept off a good amount of weight for 8 Years, and have adopted a much better life style. (I can't wait to get back to the gym and pool.) But the band has had it's issues, I am going to be 60 this year also. For some time now I drink Protein shakes and have to drink with meals as the pouch is painful even if i have a few bites - due to pouch issues. I am concerned that with out anything I might regain more weight. I know that Eventually will need knee replacement and can't afford to be any heaver. I see other family members who are now older and very overweight having so many issues to get around. I also have friends who have struggled with weight up and down 100/lbs and can not consider WLS as they now have other medical issues. The older one gets the more harder to recover etc. Also I've reached my out of pocket max for the year. (Knee injections, Foot Surgery, and all the Pre Op tests) I have kind of been thinking about this for years wanting to get these last Lbs off but also somewhat comfortable with how I am. But with so many visits to have Fluid put in and out and now my band is empty and Dr.says no more fills and the band needs to come out. My primary care Dr is OK with it but says realize you can have a huge thanksgiving meal. My Knee Dr set a letter that I needed it also. I have been so compliant insurance has agreed to pay for the revision. I have been praying and thinking on this for some time. My thought was that if ins approved it I would go ahead and now that they have i am concerned that i am tempting fate, as I am generally in good shape but would be helpful to looks additional 30/lbs or so. My Daughter was also banded a number of years ago but regained her weight , she actually was the first to start the revision process as she has 2 friends who have the sleeve a few yrs ago and have done well. She started WW back in Aug, while she started the revision process. Ultimately she was not approved Because of non compliance but has now lost 85/lbs on her own! She is very strict but she too is thinking she may need to do something later as she has been through this before and doesn't know if she can keep it off. She is encouraging me to get the sleeve as she know how I work out and have kept a good amount of weight off, She thinks I will do well with it. She says her friends who are a few years out generally eat 1/2 of what is served in a restaurant (Which is often what I do, unless its a salad). Even thought i don't have any fill I have some restriction but am definitely more hungry. Hopefully my Dr will put both of us at ease Any words of encouragement?
  4. How much (or what pct) did you loos 2 weeks post op ? Felling stalled. Can't break under 240. Still on full liquids. 2 week check tomorrow. Band wt. 300. 5/1/08. Bmi 41 Sleeve . 252. 5/5/17. Bmi 34.2 Current. 240 5/17. Bmi 32.6 Lowest band. 236. 2010/ 32 Lowest Adult 225 / 1980 Bmi 30.7
  5. Hi. I'm now 4 weeks out scale moving. Around the 235 mark now. Any idea of Calories, grams of protein, carbs ? Etc. also hunger has come back. Not bad but some say they are never hungry.
  6. Hi. I posted before about being nervous and my wife being worried. I had some anxiety about this a few weeks back. Fairly calm this week. 2 day to surgery. My wife asked if I'm sure. Currently I'm 10 lbs from lowest band weight at 248. Was 300 when banded. Its hard to get excited as band is empty no issues but starving on this pre-op diet and this is what it takes to start loosing and I know without something it's impossible to keep off. I have done ok with the band but so many issues non with it empty. Guess I'm looking for some encouragement. At 6'. 248 your acceptable. But with bad knees and family history of diabetes i know getting thinner will help. Anyone else revised when close to lowest band weight and no longer morbidly obese
  7. I too was nervous the weeks up to my revision. I want back and talked to the nutritionist, therapist etc to get reassurance. Especially as it Beas a band sleeve revision. The last days before I was surprising calm even that day. The surgery went great. Minimal pain ( discomfort). Have had a couple times I drank too fast but nothing much. I'm almost 2 weeks PT. Can drink more volume than I expected. In some ways it's like nothing was done. But sure this will change with more solid foods. But really was not has bad as I had thought.
  8. I just looked at my BCBS Site and the bill for my revision on May 5th was in. the Total was 42K and the Approved amount BCBS Paid was $27,500 I really didn't think it would have been that much ! And I am not yet sure if the Surgeon Cost is in there. With all the Testing for this we meet my $10,000 out of pocket max for the year as my ins runs Nov toNov. My Dr also does original Sleeves now for $9,999.99 in surgical center .
  9. Wow. My dr will do sleeves for 10k. It's done at a really nice surgical facility they were just day surgery but have started to keep people overnight for Bariatric surgery
  10. I don't have to pay Any of this 27 k. Because I meet my 10,000 out of pocket from all the pre testing and a foot surgery.
  11. Wow. Yes all people are not Suppose to be skinny . Your biology has a lot to do with it. There is a huge difference in being morbidly Obese and just overweight. I know genetically thin people! The east what they want and never gain. Then some of us store everything as fat. I tell the story of my cousins. 2 natural one adopt until they got to there 20'. They looked so much alike skinny, blond. Now years later. Adopted child tall thin blond. The other 2 are quite heavy. Same house, food etc.
  12. 5 weeks liquids! That's crazy ! I'm on day 8 of 14 post of liquids and it's driving me crazy. Not that I'm that hungry. But now eating soup, protein drinks and water. Soup a bit salty, see the dr thurs so hopefully can start mushy foods next.

    Question re: why insurance deny

My BMI was too low also, I was on med for BP than Dr added a 2nd. Also I have arthritis in both knees, Eventually some day may have to be replaced. My Orthopedic Dr sent a letter also. Short blunt, (Loose weight or he may be in a wheel Chair) I have been working out since the Band and have a tons of backup evidence of compliance which many people do not have after 8 years. So if BMI is low they want to see some co-morbidity factors. And that you have done your part. But it comes down to the person reviewing you case,
  14. Scheduled May 5. Band to sleeve. This pre op diet is hard. Only few more days.

    Question re: why insurance deny

It depends on weather or not you initially meet the requirements if you do they may deny due to non-compliance. Basically you did not follow plan and did your part.
  16. In addition to recovery. Have you checked blood pressure? Are any of you on bp meds. Low bp can cause these issues also. Dizziness, tiredness, and feeling down etc. Weight loss alone will bring down bp. So if your on bp med it may be too low, check with your dr.

  18. Hi, I am Scheduled for a Band to Sleeve revision due to complications, but have good amount of weight off. I was talking with my wife last night about upcoming surgery, She brought up how hard it to see me after surgery, and the Body Lift was the worst. it was actually done Out Patient, in an Excellent 1st Class Facility here in Raleigh. The Surgery was 8+ hr long. She was not prepared about how bad I would look, Guess I looked more than half dead as they wheeled me out to the car! ( They explained when i was brought out that is how they want you to go home) . I could walk and get to my chair etc, still kind of out of it, but I have no idea how bad I looked) Still Don't. So due make sure to discuss this with the Dr. so your partner knows what to expect when they see you! Especially if you go home.

    Personal Trainer?

Congratulations check out if your gym has small group training. Mine did. About 6 to 10 ppl. With a trainer. Worked out with them 3x week. 1 hr. Was far less expensive. A lot depends on your gym. Currently doing Aquafit 3x week and when we're out side try to make 5 x

    BIG MISTAKE

I've started but quickly turn it off.
  23. Hi It's been some time since I've been on this site. I was fat my entire life, weight 330 in HS and up and down ever since. Lowest adult weight was College where I got to 225 after starving but never able to keep at a close to normal weight. I was banded in 2009 and like many have had a love hate relationship with my band. Like many it worked but had problems with too much or too little fills. Have had Fluid added and taken out so many times I can't remember. Some issues with Reflux etc. I was 300 when band was placed, lowest was 240, For the last 3-4 years my weight has fluctuated from 250 to 265. Overall I eat well and work out at least 3 x a week, mostly in an exercise class with trainer. (So basically I have been able to maintain a 40 lb weight loss) About a year ago the Nurse at the Bariatric office started talking about a possible revision and how he could really get me to my goal once and for all. I was going to them at least 6 times a year. (They had an annual Self Pay program) We started the Process about 6 months ago, with all the testing, with the testing it was found that pouch was dilated, and dr would not put in any more fills. The insurance initially approved to remove the pouch but not the revision. The Dr asked for a peer review and they came back asking for some more information. which i was able to provide So they have now approved the Revision to the sleeve. I am nervous as I am generally in good health. Have High BP and actually look like most of the old fart friends of mine who are in the late 50 - 60's. many of who never faced a life long battle with weight. On one hand have bad knee issues, that will be better if slimmer as well as High BP, But I am getting older and with the current insurance situation who know if I will ever have the chance to have this done again under insurance. I do want this band out but could not really face the good chance of gaining my weight back if i had noting to help me. Its been hard enough to keep tin the 250-260 range and I don't want to go back to 300 Plus. But also I am concerned I wil never be able to eat a normal meal again. Guess I'm looking for some encouragement from people who have done the band to sleeve Revision. PS Getting Insurance to pay is hard. The Dr said it was unusual that i had so much documentation. I started to go to a good gym just after the band and they log each time you go in for INS Purposes so I had excellent records also had records of weight loss and personal training programs for the last 8 years! and Dr had records for 7 years of followup. They probibly sent 50 pages of documentation as well as letters from various dr. .

    255 Starting Weight ?

Hi glad I found this. I am having band to sleeve conversion. I'm also 6 ft. Was Banded in 2008 at 300lbs and was considered to be a "light weight". Band has helped but some issues, I'm now about 250 and getting sleeved. At a lower weight don't have the desperation as before I'll be 60 this year need to get down as I'll eventually may need knee replacement. It is different when your not extremely heavy for ppl to understand. But for me concerned about gaining back if band is removed.
