Anyone heard of less bypass if lower BMI?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Had gastric bypass on 1-18. My surgeon mentioned to me at my last visit that the amount of gut that is bypassed is less when your BMI is less. So basically he said because my BMI was around 41, he only bypassed something like 25% ( or cm - I can't remember) but that with someone with a higher BMI, he could bypass 50% (or 50cm - like I said I can't remember exactly). Has anyone heard of this? I thought all bypasses were the same as far as how much gut was actually bypassed. I almost feel cheated and I hope this doesn't slow my weight loss. I've lost about 46 lbs. 12 from pre-op liquid diet and 34 since surgery. And I feel my weight loss stalled the past week.

Also what is the average daily carb intake I should not exceed? I don't see my nut untill next week. Thanks!!

Yep. I had an Omega Loop bypass on March 16. My BMI was 37 so my surgeon only bypasses 150cm. The 'usual' length is around 2m.

I don't know about the amount bypassed, but I believe on the program I'm on, they recommend no more than 20 grams of carbs a day. And nothing more than 5 grams of sugars per serving unless it's milk which I believe can have 12 grams of sugar per serving.

Thank you. I never saw anyone post about it so I thought maybe I was wrong! do you know if it causes you to lose weight slower?

I really don't know to be honest. I've just trusted that my surgeon knew what was right for me. 😀

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
