I thought I would share a little experience I've learned the hard way. Between my 2 week liquid diet and post sleeve recovery, I lost 35 lbs. But then I got stuck at that same weight for about 2 months. I began 20 minute walks 3x a week. Still nothing. I got curious as to what I could stomach (pun intended), so I cooked a chicken breast and added a can of corn. I figured if i was going to vomit, it would be spectacular. My surgery was at the end of January. Thankfully it stayed down. Although eating the entire amount of corn was probably not best idea, but I was feeling kind of bummed and got an attitude I'm still working on getting over. Anyhow, it was the largest and most I've had to eat since the surgery. I bought a small bag of those small purple potatoes. I cut up two of them and nuked them for 4 minutes. I cooked 3 eggs in a non-stick pan and added a bit of shredded cheese. It was great. I try not to weigh myself everday. So after two days of this I was expecting to have put on weight and wasn't looking forward to the result. Well, suprise, I actually had lost 3 lbs. I figured I may have just been a bit dehydrated so I didn't get my hopes up too high. Well, now here I am a week later and I've now weighed in at a 9 lb loss in just over one week! I have been so desperate to loose weight and break through my plateau that I wasn't actually eating enough! I was 315 on the day of my surgery and now I've consistently watched it drop to 271! I haven't been this light in 3 years! I've gone from a 50" waist to a 42", and those are starting to get too loose with my phone, wallet and keys in them. I was just about to start buying 4xxx shirts and now I'm getting close to pulling off a 2xxx. I'm not so much bragging as I am trying to share with other frustrated people who are making my mistake. I'm not sure if this is just displaying my own ignorance or not. But I wanted to share just in case. Don't give up! 44 lbs down. Hopefully 70 more to go. It doesn't seem so unattainable anymore. Best of luck!

Most people post op that are losing slow do not have their calories high enough and kill their metabolism.

I would suggest people increase their calories without adding in simple carbs like potatoes.

Glad you got the scale moving, good luck.

Thanks for sharing your success story! Congrats! That's one of my biggest worries as well, is to hit a plateau really early after my surgery and then just become bummed out about the whole thing. So thanks for the tip, def will keep that in mind to eat enough to keep metabolism going.

I'm excited for you! Plan on getting stuck. I've read on here it's going to happen several times before we hit our goals. I have a comment from someone saying to avoid simple carbs. I found I feel pretty grouchy and my energy was poor when I was eating nothing but Protein. I started loosing weight again when I did start including a little bit into my daily diet. I actually think the addition of a little fat may have actually helped me break through also. I was told moderation. Not extinction of any kind of foods. But you don't want to eating much or simple carbs. When I said I was eating potatoes, they were the tiny purple ones. Far smaller then a regular brown ones. And only two of them. I don't think I have enough room to eat an entire brown one anymore. I've been eating a lot of romaine lettuce with olive oil and vinegar. I just started eating Beans. Anyhow, I feel really good now and it seems to be working!! Good luck and congratulations on the surgery!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
