Day 2 Post Op - What to drink and when? Advice please.

Recommended Posts

I only want to drink Water. I tried adding Isopure non-flavored whey Protein to some hot tea but it tasted horrible. I have no desire to eat anything, or drink anything but Water. I've also just started my period today. Lovely. Please give me advice on how to structure my day to get in the 48-64 oz of Fluid and 40-60g of Protein that I'm supposed to have the first week.

My first week out of hospital Iwas to drink Water and only 8 oz of Premier Protein drink or like. That's all you really need for a while . But I could also have cottage cheese, greek yogurt soft stuff like that.I liked Crystal light too. I still drink it all the time.

The plan they gave me at the doc said only Clear Liquids the first week. So that would rule out the Protein Shakes, yogurt, etc.

I got to start full liquids and purée when I got home. I am at post-op day #8 now. I had a really hard time at first too getting in my Protein and Water. I have been eating Greek yogurt thinned down with skim milk, cottage cheese and some Protein  shakes that I hate. I drink peach tea crystal light flavor for a change and cream of chicken Soup that has been strained. I am just now getting to where I can meet my Protein and Water. You'll get there!

Try the liquid Isopure. Smooth. Grape and orange served cold aren't bad.

I relied heavily on low sodium broth, sugar free popcicles, lukewarm Water. Didn't worry about Protein the first 10 days or so, just tried to get as much hydration as possible. Don't get dehydrated, you will suffer with terrible Constipation (TMI).

LiquaCel is GREAT for Protein. It comes in a variety of flavors like grape, watermelon, orange, etc. Since it's thick like nectar, I often dilute it in my Water intake. It's a nice change to Water, and also provides 16 g Protein per 1 oz serving. Not to mention, it's great for helping your body heal. You can purchase it on Amazon.< br />

I just ordered the lemon flavor. Will get it on Saturday. Thank you. I had never heard of this. A friend is also going to bring me a pack of Ensure Clear tonight to try.

That was only a few weeks ago for me. I remember it well. I could only drink Water room temperature. No cold things. I sipped premium Protein Shakes and only the vanilla and only room temperature. Sounds kinda yucky now. No need to rush. You are very swollen and raw right now. Most important is to stay hydrated. Sip water every 15 minutes. And sip Protein. Unless your Dr said otherwise full liquids is best. broth, shakes, etc.

Take care

Update Friday - Ensure clear is easy to drink. I set my alarm to go off every 15 minutes, and I take a 1oz drink of the ensure and a 1oz drink of Water. I'm using the little clear 1oz medicine cup the hospital gave me to make it seem like less of a challenge! Ensure clear has a ton of sugar though: 180 cal, 18g Sugar, 37g carb, 8g Protein, 10oz Fluid.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
