Are they not concerned abt your bp & heart rate?

No they weren't. She, the nurse, told me if I'm getting my fluids. She said to follow up with my GP. I am a nurse, i was a bit concerned but was thinking clearly ( a bit foggy) and peeing ok so thought I would watch it. I was weak, lost it trying to fold a sheet. But Drs worry about poor turn out with there surgery. If I see my GP, they aren't associated with issues with the surgery.

This was so helpful and encouraging. I am 5 months out and down 54 lbs. I was feeling really discouraged. Especially after seeing my surgeon and being told to go vegan to which my nutritionist responded he was crazy. I am at a stall for about 3 weeks now and was losing hope.

My Dr was disappointed. I lost 30.1% but they expected 40% in 3 months. When I got home it really bothered me and I realized my appointment was at 2 1/2 months so I sent them a message reminding them of the fact. I am down 53 lbs at 3 1/2 months, which is greater than 50% at this point. I have a feeling it doesn't matter to the Dr. Its all about their statistics, their numbers. They don't really care what we've lost or what's going on with us as long as it looks good for them. I mentioned my heart rate was 40-50s and BP was 70 & 80s. They said as long as I was getting my fluids I will be fine. Grrr

Wow! I can't believe they expect you to lose 40% in 3 months! That just sounds crazy to me!

Don't get discouraged. Stay the course, drink your Water, take your Vitamins, Protein first. You can and will do this! [emoji106]

These stalls are so frustrating! I'm only 2 weeks out and have hit my first stall. Can't believe it given how little I'm eating. I'm still on soft food. Glad to know that others eventually break through these stalls. Have upped my Protein and liquids. Hopefully a breakthrough is around the corner for all of us.

Stalls are very frustrating but I don't give them power over me & my healthy decisions. I know we want instant results (myself included) but we didn't get in the situation that lead us to our sleeve journey over night & we will not get out of it over night. Surgery is a wonderful tool to get us to goal but it's not magic. What's worked for me is not obsessing about the scale & the number but rather the way my clothes keep getting smaller & nsv which are also gratifying. Take the time to recognize them & Celebrate them. I get on the scale 2xs/wk to check in but when I'm in a stall I just keep doing what I'm doing & eventually it will show on the scale. My focus is always Protein & I think a protein rich diet changes my body shape/inches & the scale WILL catch up. (FYI.. I'm 9 mos out & 100 lbs lighter). Stalls are common.. don't let that deter you or get you down.. keep making healthy decisions & you will be successful in your journey. Best of luck to you!!

Hi! What was your weight loss at 4 months? I'm down 40 lbs and just feel like it's going slowly and so worried I won't lose anymore or a lot. I know that sounds silly but I'm just nervous about failing/ I know I need to increase my exercising. Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated

I have been feeling the same way lately. I am 5 months post op and down almost 50 pounds. I kept seeing other ppl with soooo much more weight loss is that same amount of time. I have to keep telling myself that I'm doing ok for me. It is a struggle from time to time to reduce carbs and increase Protein. I just started working out regularly and that helps me feel a lot better, which is the real struggle. How we feel about ourselves, right?

These forums are a great sounding board for our concerns :)

Everyone's rate of weight loss is different. You have to take into account starting weight (day of surgery), & what their goal weight is according to height & bmi chart. My doctors office informed me a goal at 3 mths would be 30%. I did a post on how to calculate your weight loss percentage you should take a look at. I just hit 3 mths and I am slightly above 30% weight loss.

Once I saw how the percentage worked, I stopped stressing out and comparing myself to others. I have stalled twice. My surgery was on Feb 21, 2017. My 1st stall sent me into doubt and panic which was the wrong thing to do. My second stall was no big deal because I educated myself and according to the percentages I was ahead of the game.

I am boxing now and yes exercise is good but my food (protein) and Fluid intake has been pivotal to my success. These past few weeks I was stuck at 241 and it simply would not get into the 230s. Then one day BAM 239 then a couple days later it went to 237, then today 236. FINALLY!

I started doing yoga at home for "FREE" and Fitbit weekly challenges. Free yoga web sit is: doyogawithme.com

Keep following the plan and don't get so hung up on the stalls because your body will do what it does when it wants to. As long as the numbers don't go up you are ok :)

Premier Protein ready made drinks have been my go to especially during stalls.

Hey, 40 lbs in 4 months is awesome!! When was the last time you did that? Keep up the great work! Yes, increasing activity level will help as well as tracking, calorie free liquids and sticking with your program.

Yes!!! Ditto on this. Think long term. This is what a loss graph 8 years out looks like. All that you hear is 140 lbs lost and think WOW! But this is the truth and the road there! IMG_3279.JPG

Keep going....even if it takes you 8 years to get there. Is it SO worth it!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
