5 weeks post op.

Recommended Posts

Hi out there, I was sleeved on January 18/17 and I'm now about 5 weeks post op. At my 1 month check up I was down 28 lbs. from 281lbs to 253lbs. I'm wondering how people are feeling and eating/drinking? I still get some pain or like a tightening feeling in my chest or what feels like my lower esophagus?? I also am having a hard time keeping foods down. Tonight I had a little chicken and broccoli and it didn't stay down. Am I rushing the solids? I feel sick after every "meal". I notice I am hungry more often, like every two hrs. But can only eat a few bites of solid food and then I'm satisfied but usually uncomfortable. I try my best to not mix liquid close to any meals but sometimes I feel like the food is stuck after I swallow because I can't wash it down with any liquid. Does this relate to anyone? I don't know of anyone personally that has had this surgery and I'm wondering if this is normal in the beginning and when to expect these symptoms to subside.

Try to chew more with each bite. I have the same problem, and sometimes cave and have a sip of Water and then feel bloaty.

Broccoli? I'm not sure if that's a wise choice. Especially since your tummy is still tender. You need to focus on getting protien. I'm 16 days post-op. My post-op has been fairly easy compared to alot of people on here. Are you reaching your protien & fluid goals? How much are you eating at one time?
Maybe you should go back to soft food for a little while and let your tummy heal some more. I'd definitely check with your surgeon about eating broccoli this soon.

I agree with the chewing more. I'm also a month out, my plan allows veggies at this point. I do well with them but they have to be diced pretty small then I have to chew really well so I don't get bubbles or pain. Try that if it doesn't work it may just be the broccoli. I had a friend who had the sleeve she said broccoli was the only veggie that didn't sit well for her until like now and she's about 3 years post op

Also, maybe the chicken wasn't moist enough. Any meat I eat at this point that doesn't have some type of sauce or something is too heavy and doesn't go down well for me.

I feel the exact same way. I have know idea what's going on. I'm at the point where I'm scared to eat because I don't want to throw up anymore.

Your bites may be too large and you may not be chewing your food good enough. My surgeons office recommends dime size bites and chewing until food is applesauce consistency.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
