What is most important to weight loss?

Recommended Posts

@biginjapan thanks for posting all of that! Too lat to read all the resources, but I'll get to them tomorrow. I love learning about the body responses or lack of regarding diet/weight loss, etc. It is good to be knowledgeable!

Did you have yours yet?
I know you said it was coming up.
Did you get it?

Yes I did, on the 9th. I've been doing great so far. I lost 23 pounds on the pre-op diet (3 weeks) and I've lost 9 since surgery (2 weeks ago today) but the scale is holding steady at the moment. I just started purees and am doing fine. Surgery itself was a non-event for me. Got wheeled into a room where they gave me some medication through the IV -- that's all I remember before waking up in my room. Had no gas pains or nausea post-op, and until recently I was walking 10-20,000 steps a day (I now have a cold, possibly (mild) pneumonia, so I don't want to spend too much time outside where it's pretty cold).

As stated surgery is more than the diet. I know how to diet. I exercise For me surgery was the right choice.

Awesome.
You sound a lot like me.
I have been to OA
I love convenience store junk food, especially Quik Trip.

Until you can cut back on junk food, at least change your junk for to Protein junk food. GNC and Walmart have Quest protein chips. Switch to Protein Bars

The thing is post op it is so much easier to restrict your food because of limited capacity. I can't even imagine trying to cut back with a normal stomach. It would be so hard.

Like everyone has said before me Diet is definitely the most important of the two. As a man in the past I would lift heavy and do moderate cardio and got good results but this time around by getting rid of the Carbs well 20 or less per day I have had Great success. The sodas and grazing convenience store food had me out of control gaining over 100 pounds in a year. Take a look at Ketogenic style eating and you will find with some adjustments to your diet you can shed weight rapidly without losing piles of Muscle.

I found ketogenics last year before I moved forward in the surgery process when I was trying to look for a way to lose weight after my father died. I lost 30 lbs with it prior to surgery and it was such an easy transition to post surgery life that I am truly grateful for...

That Quik Trip tea, tho...

That was the hardest thing or me to give up. I struggled with the caffeine, but only because I mainly only drank hot tea in the morning and iced tea all day long. I'm 10 months out with only trace caffeine and no soda in that entire time.

Hey, I sent you a private message but it doesn't look like it is working for some reason.
I just wanted to ask you a couple things.

Without all the fluff and explanations, diet is the single most important factor in weight loss.

So you have dropped two Stone, how many pounds is that.
Damn you metric system, you continue to haunt me after all these years (an attempt at humor)
I have had surgery before.
3 surgeries to be exact.
But I hate being put under.
I had to get Electro Convulsive Therapy for my depression and you have to be put under for that.
I had 30 sessions and as a result I have PTSD when it comes to being put under.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
