Extended hospital stay considerations

Recommended Posts

Ok, so you go to Mexico to get the procedure done, but there are complications and you need to stay in the hospital longer than the package provides. How are these additional bills handled?

Where is my question? I was asking what happens if a complication arises, who pays the bill...

Your insurance should pay the bill.

I am lost on this one! Many people go to Mexico for surgery because their health insurance doesn't cover the surgery. So Mexico can be a lower cost option. So if complications arise, how is this funded? This is a very good question.

There are a number of individuals on this website that have had surgery in Mexico. I am sure they could provide you their experiences.

Chances are your US insurance will NOT pay the bill. I had this concern, and while most don't have this happen, I wanted to be safe rather than sorry. I bought travel health insurance that would cover it in case something happened. For 2 weeks coverage I only paid $20. While it was technically a 'waste' because I didn't need it, I was okay shelling out $20 for peace of mind just in case something did happen.

I had mini gastric bypass in Mexico with BariatricPal TeamMX and asked about this and was told that if any complications happen either at the hospital or the hotel, taking care of the complication is already included in the Medical Tourism package cost.

Thanks everyone. I got the same answer as it pertains to Dr. Illan. Peace of mind included!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
