Hi Everyone

so this is the first time i am on this forum but i needed to reach out to a group that has been through what i have been through in hopes of getting me back on track. I had my surgery back in December 2010 i lost 144lbs and was on a great path. however over the past 12 months i have gaining nearly 40lbs and watching myself make bad decision after bad decision. I am terrified of the path that i am on and still having a very hard time understanding why this is happening. I have had some extra stress with work but dont want to make any excuses i feel as though i am almost sabotaging myself and more importantly i feel as though i am just expecting this to happen and excepting it. i feel as though i am giving up the intensity that i had to loose the weight after surgery i was working out making good food choices and now all of that has gone out the window.

Has anyone gone through this and got back on track successfully I really need your suggestions

thanks

I'm happy you wrote this post and it's good that your acknowledge the things that your doing wrong. I haven't had the surgery yet I go on the 8th of this month, but I feel you need to look back at where you were and how far you've come. You can lose that 40 lbs, you've done it once just go back to the basics. Drink your shakes with a lean dinner and eat smaller portions, I'm sitting here now and all I smell is pizza which I LOVEEEEE but I'm sipping on my Protein it's just a matter of how bad I want to succeed. You lost 144 pounds!!!! That's amazing.... I know you can turn things around don't give up!

I'm in the exact same boat. Will be 2 years on Friday and was down 164 lbs. I had major foot surgery in august and was unable to walk for some time. I gained 25 lbs. just joined this support group to get ideas on how to get back on track and support in the process.

Just know we did it once. We can do it again. We got this!!!

Dust off your post op guidelines. Are you eating Protein first and then veggies or have simple carbs crept back in? Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Water? If you know you are making bad eating decisions, then it sounds like you need to decide to do things differently. When was the last time you visited your nutritionist? Usually people feel shame and avoid their NUT but frankly this is what they are trained for. What about a support group, is there one in your area? If so, go visit them. Good on you for acknowledging that you are struggling. Only you can committ to doing something about it.

I am right there with you. I was banded 11/25/10. I lost 100#. I was eating all the right things. In the gym 4x a week and drinking my Water. I moved and over the last 2.5-3 years I have gained 42#. It is depressing to know all that I went through to have reverted back to some old bad habits. I am stressed and have a. Wet limited support group in my new area. I am so thankful I have found this site. To cave like minded people to share the good the bad and the ugly. I can not say I've been there and got back to where we want to be. But I can sympathize with you as I'm in the same boat. I have to believe that I can get back in track. I just have too. I think after reading many comments the first place to start after admitting the problems at hand is to see a surgeon. Then start back over from point A. I do t know if this will or can work for you or myself for that matter. But I am certainly willing to try. This can't be where I end up at after all my great success. Best of luck to you.

raymia, I love pizza too and found a nice healthy alternative...you tube cauliflower pizza. Doesn't sound good but it is pretty good! Top with spinach or any other veggies!

ppirnejad, I haven't had the procedure yet, (next week!) but it sounds like you just need to get back to basics, Protein first, Water, Water water.

Do you use a Fitbit? If so, I join a group to stay motivated and challenged. In on myfitnesspal pal if you want to join our group. My username there is sleevinpops.

Good luck!

Hi Everyone. This is my first time on this forum. I am going to get the sleeve in April. Could anyone give me some advice on what I should keep in mind as far as exercise. Before and after the surgery.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
