I am on all liquids for two weeks. My surgery is January 23rd. I am so frustrated and anxious that i want to taste or chew some food right. I am trying to think about preparing my mind for my surgery. I am drinking Protein shakes 3 times a day. I could have strained Soups and broth. No meat, dairy or vegetables that I have to chew. So right now I am miserable. Tired and ready to throw in the towel for my survery

I feel your pain. I've been on a liquid diet since 1/3 and my surgery is on Tuesday. I'm surprised I haven't cheated. I've just been doing shakes every 4 hrs from about an hour after I wake up and drink Water mostly. The only thing that has me somewhat motivated is the fact that I have lost 15lbs so far. Hang in there ❤️

How important is it to stop coffee and caffeine months before surgery?

Do you want to be dealing with caffeine withdrawal immediately after surgery? I think it's a least a month or more before you can drink coffee again (if you can) after surgery. Quitting beforehand may make your life a bit easier post-op.

My pre-op diet starts on Thursday (for 3 weeks). I've posted this elsewhere, but basically, here it is:

No sugar, no caffeine, no dairy, no fruit, no smoking, no carbonation

My suggested meal plan is 2-3 (non-dairy) Protein shakes a day, and 2 small meals of at least 4 oz. of lean Protein (chicken, fish) and as many non-starchy vegetables as I want. 1-2 tbsp of healthy fat (avocado, olive oil, etc.) is also recommended with my meals.

I've also been requested to start taking Vitamins (Calcium citrate x3, B12, Multivitamin, plus probiotics) for 6 weeks prior to surgery, which I've been doing since the start of the new year.

I'm jealous of anyone who is allowed food. My pre op was one week of only liquids. It was mainly Protein shakes and Water then the night before was Clear Liquids. I did cheat twice and had a half can of tuna. I told my surgeon and he didn't really seem too shook up about it, he was just kinda like, "eh, it happens. do your best".

The pre op diet liquid diet was MUCH harder for me than the post op liquid diet. After surgery you won't be nearly as hungry and if anything you'll be working to get all your liquids in.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
