February Surgery! Any buddies?

  • Popular Post

I finally have a date! I feel like I'm being swept off my feet. I keep hearing the date over and over in my ears. I cant believe a year ago, I didn't even know there was such a cure, and here I am about to start living the healthy life I deserve. Its becoming real and I absolutely can not wait. I only know a few people who have gone through this, but I would welcome any comments or support!

Praying for you

[emoji120][emoji120][emoji120] for all of you getting ready for surgery. I am 4 days post-op and doing pretty well. I felt very weak today, but I don't think I got enough liquids in today. I will say the gas pain is very interesting and I wasn't warned about the gas pain. This forum has helped me out a lot with any questions I have had. Gastric Diversion 2/9

Good luck to you. I had my surgery on the 9th. We're on the loser's bench :)
I only spent one night in hospital. My surgeon prescribed me liquid pain medication. I started my chewable multivitamin today. I wait two weeks to start calcium chews. So far I haven't had any problems taking my regular prescribed medications. All are very small. I take very tiny sip of water then take one pill. Then repeat till all are taken. Very tiny sip of water i think has been jey for me. I take 6 in morning and 4 at night.

I'm scheduled for the 28th too.. my nerves are kicking in..

You'll be fine. Think of all the positive things that will come from this surgery. See you on the loser's bench.

Day 2 home for me was rough too. That overly full feeling is all of the nitrogen or carbon dioxide gas that they used to inflate our bellies so they could see when doing the procedure. It was the hardest part of recovery. I had minimal pain from the surgery itself. I wasn't prepared for the gas pains.

Have you tried sleeping propped up? A heating pad might help. Surgeon recommended that I slept propped up for a few nights after leaving hospital. I did as suggested. I haven't had to deal with any gas discomfort. I do use heating pad to help relax muscles around abdomen. Has worked for me. Hope you feel better soon.
Surgery (convert Lap Band to RNY) is Feb 14th and starting my 2 day liquid diet today. Going well so far. Thank you all for the updates and comments about day 2 (gas pain) as well as to ensure pills are taken spaced apart etc- to prevent issues!
I am nervous about post op pain and nausea- nausea has been a big issue with me in the past from surgery.... Oddly- the rest I am just crazy excited about!
My Doc is having me use ISOPURE ready to drink- 2 bottles today and 2 tomorrow in addition to other liquids. I was told they were awful- but honestly- the first one so far has been ok- Tropical Punch or some such flavor. It has that classic - almost bitter or dry or something tongue feel afterward that all Protein drinks make me feel- but flavor is ok.
Happy days upcoming to all!!

Be sure to let your surgeon know about your issue with nausea from past surgeries. I told him and the anesthesiologist about it. They started administering in my I.V in pre-op and continued till the day I left hospital. Never had nausea while in hospital. Have had it once since being home. Took med for it and poof it was gone.
Actually- question for all- and I apologize if this has been addressed my someone else or somewhere else- I am surfing around and havent found it yet....
Does the sodium content of the stuff you consume during a clear liquid diet matter?
I mean- this is for pre-op- do i need to make it all low sodium? (assuming no other reasons Healthwise to stay low sodium)- does normal sodium amount cause an abnormal amount of tissue swelling that would be bad for the operation? Like increase risk for staple line leakage?
The only info I got from my doctor was low sugar or no sugar.... nothing about sodium. Since it is sunday I have called their questions line but no answer yet... wondering if people here have experience with this topic.
Thanks all!

My pre-op diet was subscribed as yours. If you do have a large intake of sodium for some reason right before surgery be sure to drink lots of fluids. I cut back on sodium months ago. Didn't want that Water weight :)

Omg. Can't sleep. I leave for the hospital in like 2 1/2 hours. So nervous and excited. I would like to thank everyone for sharing their experience and offering so much hope and encouragement. See you on the losers bench!!! [emoji51] and Happy Valentines Day [emoji257][emoji178]

Congratulations. I had mine done yesterday.

Im so happy! I just spoke with my doctor, and my surgery is back on track for next Tuesday 21st! It was a few days of uncertainty and stress with the possibility of having to reschedule due to my previous weight gain, but I proved to myself and the doctors how committed I am. I have lost 8 pounds during the first week of liquid diet thanks for your support, and good luck to everyone on your journeys!!
