Who is choosing to keep surgery a secret?

Recommended Posts

I told a few people in my family and my mom has a big mouth and told my aunts (who weren't supportive at all). I then choose to tell some close friends and my best friend was super supportive (because she's had VSG so she knows what I'm going through) the others either didn't care or are expecting me to fail. I don't plan on telling anyone else because it's none of their business, and I don't want anyone's opinion on something they know nothing about:)

The only person I told was my mom, and if I didn't have to travel 2 hours away for the surgery I would not have told anyone. 10 months post op and still she is the only one who knows:-)

People expecting me to fail is why I don't want to say a word. Because even I expect myself to fail. I can't have anyone squashing the sliver of hope I have.

I had surgery in August of 2015 and to this date the only ones who know about it are my doctors, husband, and parents (who are incredibly supportive). It's a personal matter I chose to keep private. When I'm asked how I lost so much weight I tell them it's from biking, tracking my meals on MyFitnessPal, and making better choices, which is the truth (just not the full truth). I'm very at peace with this decision.

Exactly, I had an aunt ask me about it and of course she knew someone who had wls and the whole time she was talking to me the tone of her voice was condescending and she was trying to tell me what I can and can't do, so I'm just keeping it to myself now because I don't want people thinking they're entitled to an opinion about wanting to get healthy.

Please don't expect to fail because you will. Expect to lose weight, feel better, and get healthy and you will. It takes work on our part, but it is the best thing I've done for me. You can be successful!

I went to Mexico and my husband and kids knew and two close friends and mother-in law. We tried to keep from my father- in law because he blows up about everything. But by day 2 he hadn't seen me, they told him. So by time I come home everyone in town knew, people in town, at church ask how I was feeling so I just went with it. If I go back for plastic I'll just get a ad in the paper and announce it. I don't regret going to Mexico.

I am not keeping it "secret" but, like all my private medical information I am not telling anyone who doesn't need to know.

My husband and two friends before surgery and last week my assistant because she keeps buying me fancy coffee drinks to have with the 20 pounds of baked goods she brings into the office every day between Thanksgiving and New Years. Yesterday I told my beautician because I needed to have micro current tx to plump the collagen in my cheeks.

Work thinks it's a hiatal hernia.

I did have hospital hernia repair when I had my sleeve surgery and what I told people who asked. And because I work at the hospital it's also what my surgeon wrote on the white board.

Only my husband knows. People are too critical and I don't care for anyone's negativity.

I've told my parents and my cousin. I plan on telling people at work I had my gallbladder removed. The scares are the same and I'm following with having to watch my diet even more now because of it

You might day hernia or ulcer instead in case you need your gallbladder out later. It's common after surgery...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
