Who is choosing to keep surgery a secret?

Recommended Posts

I've told my parents and my cousin. I plan on telling people at work I had my gallbladder removed. The scares are the same and I'm following with having to watch my diet even more now because of it

You might day hernia or ulcer instead in case you need your gallbladder out later. It's common after surgery...

Only my husband, kids and 1 non judgmental friend knows. I told my mom that I have a hiatal hernia and have to have surgery ( that part is true) I'll never hear the end of it if she knows I'm having WLS

Thank you! I am just so used to disappointing myself. But I am working hard to get over myself so I don't sabotage my progress.

Please don't expect to fail because you will. Expect to lose weight, feel better, and get healthy and you will. It takes work on our part, but it is the best thing I've done for me. You can be successful!

The whole world knows - bit difficult not to as have never lost weight & sustained it - I have had nothing but support & admiration (that was a shocker) so far & anyone who wants to comment negatively, bring it on, been fielding unwanted tirades of abuse all my life so 'whatever' ????

I didn't tell everyone, but did confide in my mom, brother, kids, and some close friends. When I explained my reasons behind my decision (several co-morbidity conditions), even my naysayers backed off and were supportive. Had my surgery two days ago, and at this point have had no problems with nausea. Quite sore today, but that is mostly from incision sites. Good luck to all!

I am. I've told only the people who need to know! Not my mom or family. I didn't want to leave room for negativity!!! Good luck to everyone

Only my husband and my sister know. I wasn't going to tell my sister but I did because we don't keep secrets like that. I live out of state so my plan is to tell everyone I started a strict program ( I did) + hitting the gym hard starting Jan 1. I likely wont see my family until April-June. I could be knocking on my goal weight by then so I know I'll have a lot of explaining to do.

I'm only telling my husband and if I didn't need a driver to and from the hospital, I wouldn't have told him. He is cool with me having the surgery (sleeve). This is a very personal mission to me and there's only room for one person in the saddle.

I told a friend tonight so much for keeping it a secret. They were surprisingly supportive. I still wish I hadn't said anything with my big mouth lmao

Just had mine today. Only my kids and husband know. A few others have heard I am having surgery and I told them it was minor tried to change the subject.

I am worried about what people will say but trying not to care. It's not the easy way out! It's about doing what healthiest for me. It's not as if I haven't done everything I could to lose weight before turning to this. I did have moderate success (20 lbs) when I was killing my self at boot camps. Still no where what I needed and my body was just falling apart. You can only push your body so far when your 42. Wish we didn't have to feel like it needed to be kept secret.

Almost 2 years out, and I still keep it a secret except for family. Telling my dad was a big mistake though, all he ever wants to talk about is my surgery or some aspect of it. I took him to a game I got tickets for with a group of coworkers and he started talking about how much I could eat since surgery in front of everyone! But it turns out, no one really cares, or they become spiteful . I am pretty sure most my work friends think I am a drug addict due to being gaunt and thin.

I will only be telling My husband, my dad, & a very close friend, (she was so excited for me she told 2 good friends of hers before she knew I was keeping it a secret). I don't know if I will tell my mom, she can be judgmental. None of my in-laws will ever know. No one else will probably ever know, including my very good friend. She is totally against WLS & has never known a fat day in her life.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
