Scared about post nasal drip and cough

Recommended Posts

For years I have had a post nasal drip when I lay down at night which causes me to cough up mucus in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning. I have tried many different things and I can not get rid of it. I'm probably being paranoid and thinking way ahead, but I'm worried about having to cough after I have surgery and having complications. Has anyone else had any similar issue?

All I can say is when you have to cough grab you a soft pillow and hold it to your stomach I'm not saying you won't feel pain you just won't feel as much pain Good luck

@ Lauratro, I also have the same concern and just went to my pulmonologist to try and get this persisant, cronic cough under control.

Do you have acid reflux??? I think my cough is partly do to that. But for what its worth the doc said the pain meds would subside the cough. I still worry though. My doc put me on flonase, among other acid reflux meds. But one think that seems to work is a mixture of 1 tsp baking soda,1 tsp of sea salt mixed in 1 glass of distilled Water. Use a plastic syringe that the drug store will give you ( prescription area). Fill the syringe with the mixture and use,as a nasal wash. It works well to dry up the nose and mucus. I do this 2 x a day. Hope it helps.

I do have acid reflux, but it's not that bad. I have been to the doctor about this many times and they think it's from allergies so they gave me Claritin and a nasal spray. It never worked. I'm convinced that it has to do with acid reflux. I didn't start getting it till I started to gain weight. I have a nedi pot that I've used many times and does help a little bit. Thanks for the advice with the baking soda too. I may have to try that. Hope your doc is right about it not being as bad on meds.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
