Post-surgery exercise/ 5K

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for the sleeve on December 9th. I'm hoping to maintain/increase a significant activity level after surgery. My goal (at least one of them) is to run - not walk - a 5K.

One thing I've heard and am concerned about is only being able to SIP Water after surgery. I know I'll be tempted to guzzle, though.

Any thoughts or shared experience with Strenuous activities after surgery is appreciated.

I was cleared at my 4 weeks visit to do a 5k. I only made it 2.5k due onto the course being cross country trail and I was no where near being able to traverse the *hill of agony* (real name of that hill). I waited till I caught my breath after running and sipped away. Worst case you guzzle and you puke it right back up. I've done it once. It wasn't pleasant. I participated in a turkey trot on Thanksgiving. I did the 1 mile and improved my time over 5 minutes. Best advice: listen to your body! Good luck!

I started couch to 5k about four weeks after surgery and worked my way up to a 5k at six months out a half marathon at 9 months out and a full marathon at 18 months out! You can do it!

Don't worry about the Water. By several months out I could drink normally again!

Everyone's experience is different, but I could drink normally 3-4 weeks after surgery. Good luck with your running. You can do it!

You should be sipping Water and Protein. I am 3 days post op. Day one was about 4 oz total of everything. Day 2 was better with 6 oz of protein and 6 oz of water. So you will get there as long as you keep trying and being mindful that you need these things.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
