I'm 17 days post op and I am STARVING All Day! I eat 70g of protien no problem! My NUT wants me to drink two 25g protien shakes a day and 1/4 a cup of soft food 3x a day, staying close to 500-600 cal a day. I drink 6 to 8 cups of Water and take my PPI regularly. I'm so hungry though... Anyone else have this problem? What can I do to help? I'm also not full after my shakes or 1/4 cup of soft food.

One of the main reasons I got this surgery was so I didn't feel hungry. I'm feeling discouraged...

It's still very early. That's not a lot of calories if you're doing 2 shakes a day. What are you eating? My plan suggests 4-6 times a day (only 2ozs right now). I can't really say I'm hungry. I'd increase fluids to see if that helps. Full is not the goal - satisfied is. Your nerves aren't healed enough to be able to give you full sensations. Blend the shakes with ice and they may be more filling.

Oh man, I'm so sorry you are feeling so discouraged and frustrated, have you tried adding another shake as well? And I'm assuming you are non stop drinking Water too. I'm 24 days post and don't have hunger anymore. Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the advice, I had a few more meals (2oz each) today because I was so hungry, but feel discouraged about going over the 600 calorie goal. I'm eating cottage cheese, 15g protien sugar free Greek yogurt, soft cheese, sugar free Jello and yogurt. That's what I eat most of.

At this stage - you shouldn't even pay attention to calories. Protein and fluids! I have found refried Beans filling. I add a little cheese and sour cream. I am putting GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder in my food too. I can't stand shakes.

I will definitely try Beans, I feel like dairy is so high in calories in general. I guess I'm so worried about not losing that I don't want to eat to many calories. The beans with a bit of cheese and sour cream sound amazing though! Doing that tomorrow for sure! Thank you!

I don't know whether it's true, but I have read that ghrelin, the hunger hormone can stay in your system for up to 30 days after the surgery.

However, i could find no evidence that ghrelin, an amino acid, is fat soluble and thus remains in the system after the stomache is removed. In fact, I can't find anything at all in scientific literature to support that claim that is made on this forum.

Perhaps it is the incision healing that is causing a pain similar to hunger? At only 17 days, my surgeon's plan still has me consuming full liquids only and only making the transition to more substantive foods a few weeks later.

I just wrote this in another post too. I just upped my calories to 1000 this last week and I am 8 weeks out. Sometimes I feel like I need a little extra calories and will go up to 1100. I eat every 3 hours. I take in around 60-80 grams of Protein a day. I wasn't one of the lucky ones whose hunger went away, unless I'm confusing hunger with something else. I've been on an antacid since the day of surgery. I drink 50-70 oz of Water a day. I stay hungry still! But I have lost 33 lbs in 8 weeks, which I am happy about!

So, there's hunger and there's 'head hunger'. At 17 days, you likely aren't having real hunger with what you're consuming...that's more than I was able to take it 3 weeks post-op. Head hunger is HARD to deal with, you have to find other things to occupy you when you're feeling it. Go for a walk, do something, anything but eat...

You'll start feeling the restriction of your sleeve once you're on solids, then you won't have to wonder if you're truly hungry or just fighting your head. When the restriction hits, there's no wondering if you should eat more or not!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
