Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?

Well, idk..I agree and I disagree so if you all wish, how about we agree to disagree?

I have surgery Monday, and I really don't need this kinda stress around so I put up my white flag and surrender!

"Whit flag"? "Surrender"? Dramatic much? ;)

Girl, if you let someone's recount of their actual experience stress you out before you've even started, you're in for a long haul when post surgical hormones start surging.

I wish you well.

why am I not surprised to receive one more snide remark from you?

So you really wish me well or was that sarcasm too?

I mean I was taking dramatic license in waving the white flag...I was trying to be a little funny..like let bygones be bygones?

But if course you had to take that and rip it up to just cause I have a different opinion from you

And no, as a ptsd survivor, this is not "all" it takes to stress me out however, bc of my anxious nature, not that you care, it doesn't take much to put me on edge and since I have surgery around the corner, I was just stating that....

I was only trying to make peace and I had hoped that would be kindly accepted, not poked at..

Why am I not surprised that I am not allowed to wish you well without being accused of sarcasm? You've twisted my words from the very beginning of this thread and you will until you have the very last word. So, have at it. I have no desire to take that away from you.

:)

Are you familiar with how to block people? Go up to your name in the top right corner, click manage ignore preferences and add my name. You won't see another one of my posts unless you look for it. I have a feeling that simple action will relieve a lot of your stress.

Again. I sincerely wish you well.

in that case, I'm sorry... it felt like you were picking on my post. I guess in overly sensitive.

Thank you for the well wishes

I don't like to block people unless they are like idk making passes at me or cussing me out lol. I believe in second chances.

Peace?

Does anyone drink carbonated diet drinks with regularity?? food still grosses me out but after 9 weeks I still dream about my coke zeros . I wanted to go a year with none but man that's a long time. Yes... I know they recommend never having them again---

I ignore several rules now but was 100% compliant for the first nine months. The first "rule" I broke was carbonation. I had a glass of champagne on my birthday. It was definitely not comfortable (I felt so full!) so it was and still is a rare treat. I estimate I drink something carbonated a few times a month. Which ties into the second rule from my surgeon which was no alcohol. I don't want booze to interfere with my WL goals so I drink a few times a month, usually vodka mixed with something low sugar or a glass of wine. I hate working out after a night of drinking and I work out 4-5 days a week so that enforces limited opportunities to drink. Finally coffee, I didn't drink it for over a year and now drink it a few times a week. I try to drink cold brewed for less acid when possible.

For all the newbies, I highly recommend you hit your WL goals before going rogue. There are a gazillion rules that I still follow; not eating and drinking, focusing on Protein every day, taking Vitamins, etc. So while an occasional this, that, or the other will eventually be fine. Just because you can do something early out doesn't mean you should. In anticipation of the snap back, here you go. Clearly I'm blowing it.post-161802-14772420086781_thumb.jpg

@@erp you look amazing!!! Wow!! That made me laugh about " going rogue" . You are right and actually I had told

Myself I was breaking no rules until

I had passed year 1... But being pretty nauseas For three weeks and eating hardly any solids made me drink some ginger ale. I did it. It felt really good. I know I can't go back down that road. I am not trying to make excuses ( but probably am) but when almost everything that goes in is liquid - and I only drink Water and Protein shakes ( so sick)... Then the mind starts wondering to diet drinks- or at least my mind Does;)

Again- you look fantastic

I was on mushies through week 6 and rarely ate more than a tablespoon at a time. I was on soft through month three and rarely got 1/4 cup down in a sitting. I still have serious restriction at 3.5 years out and I'm happy about it.

@@LipstickLady that's so interesting- sounds like what I have imposed on myself. My doctor allowed basically anything after week 3. I am glad to hear this. I had started worrying honestly. food still grosses me out and smells make me almost sick. I had begun really thinking this was my life ... And I would be on liquids for life ( I am a dramatic pessimist sometimes) Which would be sad honestly.

How much can you eat now? Can you eat meat? I am worried I won't ever like meat again- which would make me have to depend on this Nasty nasty Protein shakes for forever

I eat about 1/2 cup at a sitting. Some days I eat more than others and yes, I can tolerate meats most of the time. food repulsed me for so long, I've gotten to the point where I eat what I love but only when I feel like it instead of eating just to eat.

Yes, you are being a pessimist. That's easy, though, with all the hormones and big life changes. It will get better. Promise.

I accidentally drank a soda when I was a few weeks out. Nothing happened which is why I didn't realize what I was doing til it was halfway gone. I'm not much of a soda drinker, never have been. I think if you have a diet soda and the bubbles don't make you sick it's ok

3 years out and I drink carbonated drinks a couple times a week. I will say that I didn't do this until I was about 2 years out and I was at my goal weight for over a year. Honestly, I do not notice a difference in my cravings when I drink them. I did regain but that was from allowing too many carbs back into my diet.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
