Sizes clearly mean nothing

Recommended Posts

So i am happy to announce that i am 2lbs away from loosing 50lbs this year!!!! But how in the hell am i still in the same size clothes at 178 that i was in at 226? Now there is a difference in how they fit ( i can breathe) , but i thought by now i would ease down at least into a tight 12...Oh well i dont care that much as long as the scale keeps moving. Did anyone else stay in the same size for a long time ?

I wonder the same thing! I'm 5 weeks post op and down about 20 pounds and am still wearing the same clothes. I realize it isn't 50 pounds (way to go!) but am still wondering how the heck they seem to fit exactly the same. They must have been really tight before!

We all lose and carry our weight differently. The "ease" in sizes narrows as we lose weight. When I was heavy, I could gain/lose 20 lbs before noticing a change in clothing. Now it's 5-7 lbs.

i have thunder thighs and a belly , the belly /waist area is where the clothes fit better... those thighs are just laughing at me ..

I'm pear shaped and am sitting at 62 pounds and I cannot comfortably put on sizes smaller on both top and bottom, yet. Everything, however, is moving and redistributing it feels like. Hang in there!

At 316, I'm wearing the same clothes I was wearing at 442. They are only now just started to get loose enough that I might be able to squeeze into one size lower in some things and I can wear non-stretch fabric pants in my size now that I hadn't been able to wear in a few years. On the positive, I can hold out before spending money on clothes...but at the same time, I'm really looking forward to going down a few sizes!

As someone said above... The sizes have much more wiggle room the higher you go. When I was in plus sizes it took about 40-50lbs to drop a size... Then in regular sizes the double digits were more like 10-20. Now when I put on 5lbs here or there my size 4's get tight.

Yes, I agree about the larger size clothing having more wiggle room. And I didn't realize how uncomfortable and tight my original cloths were either. Also, try clothes that are a size smaller anyway. You might be surprised. I was SHOCKED when I fit into a size 16 Regular Intro pants (they have some stretch) that were not in the plus size department. I bought them on sale for a month or two later, and just decided to give them a try just 2 weeks later because they were so cute. I started at 22, sometimes 24. But it is so crazy how the sizes are also brand specific. Tops seem to be closer to true size for me. And of course, it depends where your weight comes off first. Every weekend I'm donating a few items, and buying an item or two, or maybe 4..........But only when they are on sale ;-) You will get there. Just focus on your nutrition and good things will come to you.

There's such a crazy discretion in clothing sizes. I have everything from a small to a large in my closet, sizes 10 - 14, as well. I no longer worry about those "markers". But, even 4 - 5 lbs either way seems to make quite a difference in how things fit. It's quite bizarre! LOL

Clothes sizes are insane, shopping drives me to distraction trying to guess what size I might want to buy. I've recently ventured back into the older children's section as they seem to fit quite well, but I think the same as the others in the beginning it took a while to drop a clothes size but now it can take as little as two weeks to drop a size. Go to the shop and just pick up loads of clothes to try on - you might get a pleasant surprise

I can still wear my old clothes but I can also fit in the smaller clothes that were too small before. Down about 35 to 38

I am down 138 pounds and am still in the same size. They are getting looser though so going down a size shouldn't be too far off.

I'm down about 39 lbs and I'm just now on the border of wearing a smaller size. 24>22.

My mother in law said "40 lbs! You must have dropped a couple sizes by now!" I had to explain that at a certain size, you have to lose a lot to change sizes. She wears an 8/10 so 40 lbs would have been a much bigger change for her.

I am finding that jeans that go by waist size are pretty standard, which is nice.

Does anyone else seem to notice that the weight comes off from top to bottom? My face seems thinner and unfortunately so do my boobs but not my badonk-a-donk! My clothes are more comfortable but no decrease. I have tried to increase my walking and bike riding to try to help.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
