6 month diet requirement

Recommended Posts

I am starting the process to revise my band to a sleeve. When I got my band i was self pay, however now I have insurance that will cover removal of my band and the revision. I understand that i'm probably going to have to go through all the testing. I have blue cross blue shield..PPO. im wondering if anyone has this insurance and if you were required to do a 6 month diet since I already have the band.

Normally you do have to do the supervised diet with Blue cross/Blue shield but you may not have to if you did it the first time around with the Lap Band. I am also a Lap Band to revision and I didn't have to do the supervised diet this time around. Good luck with everything!!

I'm a Lap Band revision ( I had the band for 10 years) and BCBS didn't require me to do the 6 month supervised diet. I'm due to be sleeved on 10/26 (can't wait!!!)

It will completely depend on your specific policy with BCBS. Call them, provide your policy/group number and ask them to send you in writing the policy related to bariatric surgery.

Hello,

I am in the same situation. I have Highmark Blue Shield and they have a policy for new procedures and one for revisions (I will post the revision policy) so I'm wondering if I will be required to do the 6 month diet again. I did it back in 2010 with my lap band but that was through Capital Blue Cross. I can't wait to get the band out, every day is a struggle with it! post-300208-14741113736025_thumb.jpg

I was self pay for my band in 2009. BCBS PPO here too, and they covered my revision with no 6 month diet. My surgeon had to show complications though, like enlarged esophagus...etc. As far as my hoops, I have a super strict surgeon anyway, and she required more hoops than my insurance hehe. Good luck!

I have Highmark BC/BS...and they didn't require me to do the 6 month diet, etc. As long as your physician sets forth why you need it, it should be approved. Yes, we quoted the same reasons from the policy you posted! However, at first I was denied, but my Dr. Did a peer to peer consultation and it was approved immediately.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
