I had ample time to prepare for my surgery and still managed to not accomplish everything I needed to do. But the good thing is life still goes on and all those chores were waiting patiently for me when I got out of the hospital.

That was 14 months ago and I'm still woefully unprepared for most things (like getting ready for a termite tenting next week where I'll have to be gone from my home for three days). Haven't done a single blessed thing yet,

I have to say that the best thing about aging (I'm 55) is that I have stopped worrying so much over the fact that I'm not perfect and have nothing in common with super woman. It's a lot easier now to just shrug my shoulders over most things and move on.

So do the best you can and let go of the rest. Your entire life is about to change and there's a lot more important stuff to worry about. Take a deep breath, relax, and just imagine how great things are going to be a year from now.

Yay! I am finally home from the hospital! Woot Woot!

So here is the low down people:

On Tuesday my surgeon decided that because he would be performing multiple surgeries and due to the complexity involved that he would like to move my surgery date up- So I had surgery the next day (a big deciding factor in this was that he would be going out of the country the day after my originally scheduled surgery and wanted to be on call to me while I was in the hospital should any complications arise).

So we scrambled and moved stuff around and at 6am Wednesday morning I went in for surgery.

Dr Rogula performed a RNY Gastric Bypass, A midline abdominal muscle resection, removal of previous hernia repair (completely- scar tissue, mesh, everything), and hernia repair.

The open abdominal wound, mesh, and infection that has been causing me issues for months? He literally cut the whole damn thing out of me!

My stay at UH Geauga was 5 very long days- I do have to say, I AM NOT A FAN of this surgery. Not because of the long hospital stay but the pain OMG there is sooooo much pain! I thought eh itd be like a c-sec/hernia surgery MAN I WAS WRONG!!!

This surgery hurts super bad- I am not a fan.

The nausea has not been too bad, I am tolerating liquids and Proteins well, I am healing beautifully, no issues with my staples or anything :) everything is going great- ALTHOUGH I did have to have 6 IV's while in the hospital- that is normal for me my veins are fickle bitches like me lol.

All in All I am doing great, happy to be home, happy for liquid oxycodone, and happy for an awesome surgeon!

Hope Your Day is Great,

*Amber*

So happy to hear you are home! I've been wondering how you are. I'm happy it all went well (besides the pain, that doesn't sound fun at all). Hope you are feeling better & recovering :)

Welcome home! I'm glad to hear all went well. Don't overdo the first couple of weeks, especially considering the multiple surgeries. Get some rest!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
