Ok so I just read over my paperwork from the education class. In my reading I read that we don't have to take the opti-fast instead 2 tablespoons of milk of magnesia and broths clear liquid diet 1 week before surgery. Is this weird should I be concerned? Everyone I spoke to says that it is. I'm going to talk to my surgeon on Friday so I'll ask him about this but what do you guys think.

Just re-reading: I have to do 2 days before surgery 2 tablespoons of milk of magnesia and 8 oz of Water before bed and then the day before surgery just 2 tablespoons of milk of magnesia in the morning drinking only full liquids for the rest of the day. But NO OPTI-FAST I'm going to ask him tomorrow

Definitely clarify with your team, but for comparison, I did no prep at all for my surgery other than being NPO from midnight the night before my 0800 procedure.

Not a single one. I probably had one of the easiest recoveries of anyone posting here...I was on full diet at 4 weeks and haven't looked back since.

Just keep in mind that everyone situation is a little different and that some people may need a preop liquid diet for X amount of days where as others will not. You definitely should check with your surgeons. And sometimes doctors will say one thing and the surgeon something else. Go with what the surgeon says as he will be performing the surgery.

@@determined1LD I've lost 46 lbs so far, and I've been losing/gaining/losing the same .5 lb for about 10 days, so really 46 in 8+ weeks. Every surgeon has different pre-op requirements; mine felt that it wasn't necessary to do prep for the sleeve other than what you'd do for any surgery. Not trying to override anything your surgeon requires, just that there's really nothing 'weird' out there, only different approaches by different docs.

It is slightly surprising that there is such a wide range of Dr. orders for pre-op for the same surgery. Even the after surgery orders can vary so widely you'll question your surgeon.

My surgeon orders a 10 day liquid only diet prior to surgery (protein drinks and Clear liquids only) and NPO after midnight the night before.

But definitely listen to YOUR surgeon and do what your programs says.

I went to my appointment today and spoke with my surgeon he said I will be on a week fast of opti-fast and all my concerns and questions were answered. I feel comfortable. I even found out I lost some weight too. That was good news. Scheduled another appointment that I need to be sedated for in October. Everything is going smoothly.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
