I had my band 7/20/07. I weighed 241 at surgery and am now 225. I actually fluctuate 1.5 every few days, so I am 223.5 or 225. I got my first fill on 8/20/07 and lost 5 pounds within a few days. Since then, it has been only 1.5 pounds!

I am frustrated. I feel like I am not losing very fast. I wonder at what rate other people are losing the weight. I exercise 4x per week at the YMCA for 1 hour, walk on alternate days and my daily calories average about 800 per day.

there is NO such thing as normal weight loss. There are tons of threads around here about how much weight have people lost in the first six months, how much in a year, what is normal, why aren't I losing fast enough, etc. There is no norm. EVERYONE is different. When I eat 800 calories a day I may lose for a couple of days or a week, but then I start holding on to my weight, I lost at 2000 calories a day, someone else might lose at 1400 calories. What they books and the docs say is they want us to AVERAGE 1-2lbs per WEEK of weight loss. Everyone fluctuates daily. We eat a little more salt one day and put more weight on, for example.

I lose 1-2 lbs per week and nothing more. Given the fact that you lost 5 lbs quickly your body is evening out right now. Just stay focused and the weight will come off. It may only be 1-2 lbs a week which is considered average.

For the past 3-4 months I have averaged 1 pound a week. Very slow and frustrating but i try to look at it as better than gaining. Earlier on I did lose more. I have noticed less weight loss since I started working out 4x week at Curves and riding bike on average of 4 miles per day to get exercise and tone up. I have lost way more inches and appears like I have actually lost more pounds than I actually have. I am new to this exercise & metabolism thing and discovered that muscle weighs more than fat so as I lose fat and gain more muscle, my weight loss has decreased. But I feel better and my blood sugar has normalized so I try to focus on that and not the actual pounds. I had become a Scalezilla and I had to stop obsessing about that because left me depressed and frustrated. Don't give up.

While there is no "normal" the thing to remember is that the expectation is 1-2 lbs per week. You are right on track.

I lost nine pounds pre-op and nothing post-op.

I know it's only been five days but man two pounds would be nice.

Maybe I'll buy a measuring tape.

I eat less now post op than pre-op.

Why haven't I lost any yet?

I Say Great Job. I Am Also Feeling Your Pain. I Was Banded 7-16-07. I Have Lost 28 Lbs. I Lost This In The First 4 Weeks. Have Not Lost Anything In The Past 2 Weeks. I Go In For My First Fill Today And Hope This Will Help Speed Things Up. Good Luck To You.

I've not been banded yet but I'd like to jump on the advice bandwagon if I may. It may be a good idea for some to put the scale where you won't always get on it. I find it to be discouraging to weigh all the time. I put my scale in my basement bathroom which I rarely go into so I won't weigh all the time. Hope that help.

If you are excercising more you may be build more lean muscle and that is displacing fat .... you may seem like your not loosing weight but you are loosing inches ... loosing inches is healthy too

IMHO - get on the scale only once a week - i was banded 7/17 and have lost 25 as of last Thursday - 1 - 2 lbs a week is what I was told.

The weight isn't going to vanish immediately cuz you are eating way less and exercising - i hear you - i feel the same way that you do that the pounds should be dropping like flies - since i have reduced my calories - (i'm eating 1000 to 1200 a day) and excercising like crazy - (5 days a week) But this is NOT reality... This is our imagnation...

Maybe you need to increase your calories a tad - 800 one day 1000 the next - Lucky you to have a fill already - i won't get mine til 9/5.

The prices for the ones that reach my weight (as of right now) are way too expensive. So I just get weighed at the Dr. office. She keeps better track then I do any way.

A very common thing among Lap-Band patients is a sense of anxiety over different issues.

A common denominator of those issues is a sense of frustration due to a belief system in which the patient feels as if they are "Behind schedule".

These feelings are self-generated, and usually come from a desire for things to happen "Right now".

I know that it seemed like it took FOREVER to get my insurance approval, and I wanted it right now.

Then it took forever to get my surgery scheduled, and again, I wanted it right now.

Then the surgery came, and as I was waking up in the recovery room I was slightly disappointed that I was still fat, because I wanted the weight to be gone "Right now".

As time passed without restriction, I wanted that... you know the rest...

Then restriction lessened, and I wanted it back right now.

And the weight kept slowly coming off...

And somewhere along the line, I began to realize that weight loss with a Lap-Band is NOT a "Right now" type of thing.

Lap-Band surgery and the weight loss following surgery requires PATIENCE, which I admittedly was in very short supply of when I started this journey.

And it began to dawn on me that before Lap-Band, if I wanted something right now and didn't get it, I sometimes got food instead of what I wanted "Right now".

I used the food to substitute for whatever it was that I wanted, but could not have just yet.

Now I am a more patient person, because of my experience with Lap-Band. I understand that things in life worth having are going to take time.

And being normal sized is going to take some time.

It took me 38 years to get to my all-time high weight, so if it takes me a few years to get back to a normal weight, well, that's OK.

I am just going to try to enjoy the ride.
