I'm 16 days post op and on a puréed diet. I got my period this week which hasn't helped my mood at all (after not having it for a year and a half). As of last week I was down 12 pounds in just a week post op. I have to be honest with all of you I almost feel depressed. I hate when my family eats in front of me and I'm actually kind of miserable. All I want to do is nap. Can someone please tell me this is normal? Can this be a chemical imbalance? Help please!

It could be any combination of the things you mentioned. I would consult a mental health professional sooner rather than later, as you don't want to sabotage your progress. Please keep us posted!

there are hormones stored in fat, and when you lose fat rapidly, they can be released and really mess with you. I dealt with (and am still dealing with) a lot of moodiness and anxiety, and sometimes deep depressions during this past year. It does get better, but I second the suggestion above. Talk to someone and get as much support as you can as soon as you can. Take care, and hang in there. It gets better.

And congratulations on your weight loss. :)

It's completely normal. Your body and mind is going through such a rapid change that it will take a while for you to understand. I sat in my living room while my husband was at work and cried every second, called him and my mother and told them that my decision of surgery was the biggest mistake of my life. I couldn't eat, make myself drink anything and I couldn't understand how it would get any better. It did. Now, looking back, it was just a bump in the road that I had to get past and understand how to adjust my life to the new me. Knowing then what I went through, I would still do it again in a heartbeat. It will get better. :)

I am in the same boat! If it wasn't for my doctors persistence and support I would have had my balloon removed already. And I'm only 5 days post op. I've cried everyday and been dealing with a lot of anxiety and depression. I am trying to be as positive and optimistic as possible. But I am certainly struggling badly with the mental of it all. You are certainly not alone. It got so bad today my doc had to give me and rx for some Xanax... We are our own worst enemies...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
