Co Pay and Post Dated Checks

Recommended Posts

I know all hospitals are different, but I was wondering if anybody was able to write a post dated check for their Co Pay. I have a $2000 co pay and my surgery is on the 6th of September. I have a lot of bills and expenses so saving the money wasn't easy and a couple unseen expenses had me dipping into my surgery savings. I'll have $1600 of it on surgery day when it's due, but I get paid on the 9th so that's when I'll have the remaining $400. Was anyone else in a situation where they're hospital took a post dated check. I know I'm ultimately gonna have to call my hospitals billing department but they're closed on the weekend so I was just looking for some hindsight.

They shouldn't take a post-dated check, as it's not recoverable if it bounces. They most likely will, however, accept a payment plan since you are paying the majority in advance.

I agree with Sharon, set up a payment plan. They may take the post dated check since it is only three days, but ask about the payment plan first, cant hurt.

A reputable business won't accept a post-dated check. A reputable client wouldn't offer one.

A check dated for that day or post dated is still a check that has to be deposited. So the risk to me are the same. It could bounce either way. Not saying that mines will but just stating a fact.

I should be able to get the money before but I'll just ask about the payment options Monday. Thanks everyone

Yes a payment plan! I have Tricare for life as my second ins, well they didn't pay anything for the surgeon or hospital. I had to stay 3 nights when I had surgery, my O2 stats were crashing every time I got up to walk!

The hospital had to wait for a denial from sec ins then I had to pay over 2,000.00! They called and I set up a payment plan according to what I could afford. They were the nicest people that I've talked to about owing a bill.

If your county has a "bad check recovery program", then one of the rules on which cases it will take is, was the check current or post-dated. The program in our county won't take post-dated checks for recovery.

Our program was run through the district attorney's office, and it was recently disbanded. All bounced checks in my county now have to go through small claims court.

That's why I said they probably would not take a post-dated check... if it bounces, the hospital may have no chance of recovery.

I think asking about a payment plan is the best option............I am by no means an expert, but I always thought post dating a check was not legal......but that could just be something my parents taught me when I was growing up. The hospital I used just asked for "some" of the money during my pre-op testing....I gave them $500, and they billed me for the rest after the surgery. I had to pay a total of $1800.

I called my Financial Coordinator this morning and she said because I don't have any outstanding bills with the hospital and because I'd be paying the majority of the CoPay before surgery that id be able to be on a payment plan for the rest. I'm so happy I don't have to have this stress on me anymore. Thanks everyone for your help and advice

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
