I have a Jawbone Up and I LOVE it. I've worn a lot of other trackers (Fitbit, Nike, garmin) and I just love the interface. I also have an Apple Watch that tracks for me but I still wear the Jawbone.

My favorite feature is the alarm that you can set to remind you to move. I have mine set for every 15 minutes. If I'm still for that amount of time my band gently vibrates and that's my cue to get up and move!

It's very easy to add and track food and specific types of exercise. The sleep tracking part has really helped me- I was sleepwalking and my band showed a pattern of what time I was getting up and for how long. Now if I can only figure out where I have been going all those nights...

Best of luck! :)

I just ordered the fitbit Alta. My cousin has the same one and she loves it for our daily walks we do. It does sleep monitoring, steps, and calories. I can't wait for it to get here, I did call up the company though to ask if they had a waterproof fitbit, since I will be doing a lot of swimming, and they said no, they are only Water resistant, which is a bummer to me, so that's why I just went with the Alta. Im jealous that VALENTINA has a waterproof one.

Hey guys! I wanted to hop on here to ask if anyone out there has a Fitbit or something along those lines. I'm interested in purchasing one but have seen mixed reviews.

If so, what kind of device do you have and what's your experience with it? Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

It has been my experience that Fitbits are not very accurate (they look nice though). I would find that if I was sitting down my fitbit would add steps to my step count, the calories burned were never accurate. If you want an accurate activity tracker then I would recommend anything by Polar. If you are not looking to spend much then I recommend the Polar FT4 or FT7 (price ranges between $40-$60 on Amazon). If you don't really have a limit to what you will spend I recommend the Polar A300. You do have to wear the heart rate strap but it provides a more accurate reading than Fitbit.

That's strange.. I've never had steps added on my fitbit when sitting.

Love my Fitbit Charge HR. Keeps track of my heart rate consistently throughout the day for a better understanding of how many calories I burn. I also love the sleep tracker. Fitbit App is super user friendly.

My only wish is that it was completely waterproof.

Mine is. I have the paperwork and literature that came with it that states that it is waterproof.

Like I stated above, I wore it in the pool everyday since Valentine's Day until about three weeks ago when my orthopod took me out of the pool until after my skin surgery.

My daughters bought it on Amazon. Fitbit Charge HR--waterproof. I don't know if they only made a few of them or what, but I have one and love it!

None of the fitbits are waterproof, they are Water resistant - see the link below. You ars likely doing yours damage which will eventually fry it

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1598

No. My fitbit clearing states on the box and in the literature that came with it that it is WATERPROOF. As I stated, I've worn it everyday since Feb. in the pool, showering, washing dishes--everywhere and it is still working marvelously. It was purchased on Amazon, but is no longer available. I love my waterproof fitbit.
They do have waterproof ones on amazon still available I just looked. They are much more expensive but would be worth it if you're swimming a lot.

Wow thanks everyone! I wasn't expecting so many replies! I'm 3 weeks out of surgery and don't have much energy yet... So I've been researching which tracker would be best to buy. Not gonna lie, it's a little overwhelming!

That's why I stated "In my experience"...doesnt necessarily apply to everyone. I have had a better experience with Polar products. But I am sure there are millions out there who love Fitbit just like you☺

I've had my fitbit one for over 3 years now! I never take it off!

I like the little bit of competition between me and my fitbit friends :)

I did get an upgraded fitbit for Christmas (the blaze, I think) but I have to say, I didn't like it all that much! I loved the fact that I could track my heart rate and such, but I did find that it wasn't all that accurate with steps.

I could run on the spot for 5 minutes and it would count maybe 100 steps. Maybe because it was on my wrist?? Idk but I found it discouraging.

The fitbit one is simple and doesn't have all the bells and whistles but I like it ????

I have the Fitbit flex. A hand me down from my son. I found replacement bands on Amazon and can color-mood coordinate which keeps me excited about moving more. Today I have a flowered band. Tomorrow is "camo" day

I have the fitbit flex. I got it when I began the 6 month supervised diet. I started out barely able to get 2,000 steps a day !! Actually I was shocked to see how much I wasn't moving each day! My fitbit motivates me daily now and I just love it.... Would not want to be without it.

I had a fitbit charge HR & loved it but, kept getting rashes turns out, I'm allergic to Nickel. There's nickel in the band. I also use to sync it with the fitbit app. I'm looking for an alternative @@haveyoumetalexx

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
