Overwhelmed after pre-surgery appointment

Recommended Posts

I went to my presurgery appointment today. I am scheduled for the sleeve on 6/29. They went over diet, Vitamins, what to expect, etc.... The packet of information they gave me is SO overwhelming. I am a black and white person, and all these options are driving me insane. I don't know where to start with what to buy to have at home for when I get home from surgery... my surgeon does a clear/full liquid diet. I don't know which Vitamins to buy, each type of Vitamin has several options! This almost makes me want to not have surgery, I feel like I am already failing.

@@beyondgrief There idea of "examples" was 1 oz Protein, 1 oz starch for Breakfast (1 oz yogurt, 1 oz oatmeal). It is just to vague to me. What if I buy the wrong yogurt or oatmeal?? lunch example 1oz Protein, 1 oz veggie (1 oz cream Soup, 1 oz v8 juice). dinner 1oz protein 1 oz fruit (1 oz sugar free pudding, 1 oz grape juice).

Do you have a meeting with a nutritionist?

@@KristenLe No - but I think I am going to make one. I don't want to start off on the wrong foot. I have a heart condition and was seeing their nutritionist during preop stuff so I didn't have to see the one at the bariatric clinic.

Just take it one step at a time. Write out a list of what you need to do and what to buy and cross them off as you do it. You will see it's not that overwhelming.

Don't worry about getting the wrong things. As time goes by you will figure out what you like and what works for you.

You can do it

Thank you. I have started a list. I just went shopping on Amazon for all my Vitamins. Also bought a food scale that goes lower than my current one. Next on my list.... slippers and food lol.

you've gotten good advice from others.......also don't worry so much about "stocking up"......just make sure you have plenty of whatever you plan to drink....water, sugar-free and carbonation free drinks.....find a Protein drink you like, but don't buy too much because your taste will most likely change after surgery.......a couple of cans of creamed Soups and maybe some progresso light Soups that you can puree. ......remember as soon as you're no longer taking pain meds you can drive and go to the store and get whatever you want.....for me I didn't take any pain med once I was home from the hospital...but everyone is different.....My point is you really don't need to stock pile anything....especially Protein drinks/powders......I made that mistake and I now have enough Protein powder to start my own Protein Powder store! hahah

It all does seem to be quite overwhelming at first but it's really not too bad once you're in the middle of it.....Good luck to you and keep us informed on how you're doing.

Hey, don't stress your self out. Take it one step at a time. I would suggest lots of broths in all flavors so you don't get bored. A plain flavorless Protein powder that you can add to everything. As far as vitamins, the Bariatric Pal Store online has vitamins in patche for which I am dieing to try. I would suggest you start there. The less you have to worry about swollowing, the better. God bless.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
