Struggling, 1 Month Post Op Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 month post op laparoscopic gastric bypass, and I am miserable. I am struggling.

85% of what I eat/attempt to eat gets vomited back up. Everything I attempt to eat is allowed on my soft food diet or pureed. So far I haven't thrown up from yogurt or my Premier Protein drinks.< /p>

My nutritionist says I'm very calorie deficient.

I'm not getting in enough Water or Protein. My nutritionist says that since I'm a tall girl, she wants me getting in at least 72 g protein, and I can get nowhere near that.

I used to be able to drink the full 11 oz bottle of premier Protein shake post op, now I can manage to drink a half of one.

I constantly don't feel good, get nauseas a lot. Oh and on top of this all, I have issues with falling asleep at night because I can't stay still.

Is it possible I have a stricture? I'm not scheduled to see my surgeon until June 17th.

Thoughts?....

Yep, call the surgeon. It sounds very similar to what happened to me and it turned out to be a stricture (narrowing of the opening exiting your stomach due to overgrowth of scar tissue). It is a super easy fix - they do an EGD with a balloon dilation. I had it done twice about 1 week apart because it was so tight, they were afraid to expand it too much the first time. I felt better immediately. I did still say nauseas for quite a while (up to about 6 months) and had to keep taking Zofran but it finally went away and I haven't looked back!

So sorry you are having such a rough time! I truly do understand! Hang in there! And call your dr tomorrow!

I was sleeved at the end of April and have been experiencing the same. I saw my GP on Friday and she suspected the same. I'll be visiting my Gastroenterology doctor to confirm and may schedule a balloon dilation if it comes down to it. Be careful with dehydration. I was hospitalized once already because I couldn't get enough liquids in and I kept vomiting.

Stay strong. We will get through this. ????

I had the same surgery as you and for 3 months I threw up constantly. After 3 months surgeon did an Endoscopy and loosened the pouch, problem solved!!

Definitely call the doctor. Best of luck to you! It sounds like it is fairly common and also easy to fix.

I spoke with my surgeons office. They are not concerned, they think I'm either trying to eat too much and/or too fast.

I'm so frustrated and I want to cry.

Give it one more day and stick with some liquids and see if your system calms down. If not, call them again tomorrow and tell them you are concerned you are going to get dehydrated. Everytime I vomited, I had to stuck with liquids for 24 to 48 hours afterwards to let my system calm down. Sometimes it worked but never permanently which is how they finally figured out it was a stricture. I'm so sorry! I know how frustrating it is. Try to rest and maybe it will calm down for a little while. Do you have some Zofran (or other anti-nausea med) to take? What foods are you trying?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
