300+ pounds with a lot of weight in my legs...

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery on July 5th and I am very excited yet nervous at the same time. I have always been a bit over weight but after 2 kids the weight has just piled on. I carry the majority of my weight in my legs, a true pear shape. I am just wanting to know if there are any others out there that are in the same place or have lost the weight starting out with such excess weight in the legs. I get a little worried that the weight will never leave me no matter what I do. I am sure that is vey silly! thanks everyone!

my weight was more in my belly - apple shape when heavy, hourglass at normal weight.

but I will say almost everyone thinks they will be the exception and it won't work. we hardly dare to hope! but when you follow the program after surgery it does work. it's a wild ride. Do you see my ticker that my weight is now 199? I haven't seen that number in 16 years. crazy. once you get through the first month - because recovering from surgery is always rough - it is a beautiful thing!

thanks, @@LisaMergs this was a big goal met. next is 180, that was the weight I was when I married my husband. guessing 3 months or so from now will maybe reach that goal? not really putting a time frame on it, just guessing. I know it slows down as you go along.

@@amandaelder4

I have lost the majority of my weight in my lower body.

To the point it has changed my body composition, so yes you can lose a lot of weight off your legs.

The weight I have left is in my arms, stomach and I have a little back fat left.

I carry most of my weight in my lower body and have severe lymph edema/lipoedema in my legs.

I was surprised to see that I did start losing fat in my legs right away. I figured it would be the last to go. I have lost over 200 pounds and I definitely look like a melting snowman but I do continue to see changes in my butt, hips, thighs/legs.

I also started physical therapy for my lymphedema after surgery which makes a big difference.

@innersurfergirl thank you so much for your response. I had just recently read an article about lipodemea and wondered if I may have had this for some time and was just never diagnosed. I wonder if I may be able to send you a message to pick your brain about some things, I would love to get your direct input since it sounds like you know exactly where I am coming from. Thank you again!

I too had lipodema in legs and i would say that immediately post-op my legs lost a LOT of fluid! i was very happy to welcome back my ankles w/in first week!

I know there is a lot more to go and they are by no means skinny, but it was a comfort and visible change that was immediate!

Please consider to share your progress. For me, I feel good about losing so far but also feel impatient for it to go down with so much more to lose for goal!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
