Has anyone tried this diet post surgery? I've begun doing some reading and bypass is a contraindication for the diet. Anyone know why?

I was 432 at the time of surgery, and reached a low of 298, but have been residing between 303 and 310. Any insight would be great. I have been noticing some old eating patterns creeping in and am working to address them. I have a goal of being between 250-275, but have been stuck for months now. I will be two years post op this coming October. I don't think I have utilized this site enough,and I don't really have a support system of other patients to bounce things off. My wife is great and my friends too, but no one really knows what I've gone through or what I am going through...

I was told the active weight loss phase was the first 2 years after surgery and so it was stressed for me to make sure to lose as much weight as possible during this time period.

The ketogenic diet is high in fat which is not approved for diets associated with bariatric surgery.

My best advice would be to return to the diet plan given to you at your time of surgery, with little to no carbs and emphasis on lean Protein and non-starchy vegetables. If you consume too many carbs you will sabotage your weight loss.

I would think there could be an increased risk of gall bladder issues - do you still have yours?

better plan is to go back to basics and move your body.

After surgery, I discussed the issue of weight gain with my nutritionist. Her recommendation for those that have reached maintenance phase is to eat a balanced meal of Protein, carbs and fat.

Immediately after RNY gastric bypass surgery, the part of your stomach that processes fats and sugars was cut away. Therefore if you ate fats or sugars, it would pass through your new rerouted stomach and into your intestines and you could experience dumping syndrome. But after about the first year, your intestines realize something is amiss and evolve to process fats and sugars. I feel fats are important in the maintenance phase because the goal in the maintenance phase is hunger control. One of the properties of fat is to satisfy hunger cravings.

I know a few people who had done this post surgery and have had great results HOWEVER with that said.. in all honesty.. you should talk to your nutritionist about it before you begin it..make sure it won't do you any harm. As for in person ppl in your area have you tried any bariatric support groups in your area?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
