I used fairlife milk and less Protein Powder then they weren't so thick. I HATE Protein Drinks and never did find one I enjoyed but had to do it in the beginning. Also got creative with getting my Protein from Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding made with fairlife milk. I got 60 grams a day those first few weeks with very few Protein Shakes. Also did buy a few premade protein drinks for the days where I was low. Thought they were better than the powder. I now have tons of powder that I will never use as I tried to find the one that I would like. Honestly this phase will be over soon and you will have food then. It seems like forever while you're going through it but it really will be over soon! Best of luck. Find the power of positive thinking.

Sean I never added Protein powder to the bone broth I made. That would have churned my stomach. Bone Broth is so much better than store bought consume. Please try that. Then get your Protein in with shakes. Here is a link for the broth http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/beef-bone-broth-51260700

Feel your pain. I believed "them" when they said you get a 6 month hunger holiday and wouldnt want food at all. Im one week post-op and starving. I get my Protein in. And im still desperate for food. And sad and depressed. Realizing those feelings were expected, im gritting my teeth and bearing it. But i thought it would be more mental. Not physical. I physically am brought to my knees by the smell of food. It all looks n smells great. Nothing looks bad.

I'm feeling the same. Also having some emotional problems. Feeling useless like I can't get anything done. Feeling bad for my 5 year old I can't do much with him cuz I'm healing..a lot going on at one time rhen dealing with the food issue...it's very tough and I don't think I was mentally prepared.

it's a wild ride, isn't it? I was angry at week 3 for no good reason, and then depressed (mildly) for over a month. last week one day I was unreasonably in a good mood. it's the hormones. but your 5 year old gets a MUCH healthier parent in 6 months from now. it's worth it. it is totally worth it, so hang in there and you will get through the rough days.

I've been crying too occasionally. Totally out of character for me. I think it's depression. Hope I snap out of it.

I think there's hormones, I also think surgery brings big changes so it would be normal to have reactions.. New mothers have bouts of depressions etc... Changes overwhelm most of us for a bit, we don't like moving from the familiar-eating what we want when we want into the unfamiliar - eating certain things at certain intervals... Combine that with there's a fear early on of wanting to be successful and not knowing yet if you will be successful... While healing your still uncomfortable which leads to do things differently they you may have done them before... Once we move past all that, we get to the part where the progress starts to show and that will be makes us smile.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
