Hi! Just found this website, its awsome! Banded on September 11th, and my doc is Dr Christopher Joyce. It was done at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Illinois.

Hi! I'm new to this forum also and I was banded on September 11th. I went to Dr. Shen who works for The Center for Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery in Chelmsford Massachusetts. Since I first arrived at the center I've lost about 23 pounds between the 5% that needed to be lost prior to surgery and then the lapband itself. It's been almost two weeks now and I'm feeling little to no restriction and despite my restricting myself and exercising it doesn't seem to be coming off. My husband keeps saying that I need to be looking at the long term not the short term goal. I know it's only been two weeks and I'm probably not being fair to myself but I lost so much right off the bat and seem to have hit a wall now. I found some of my paperwork and it said that we're only supposed to be able to eat about 1/4 cup at a time yet I can eat a cup and have to force myself to stop. I fear that I've managed to stetch my pouch somehow or it's just not working for me. I'm sure I sound ridiculous and maybe I had higher expectations than I should have had but does any of it sound familiar to anyone else? Thank you for listening. :)

I was banded on September 4th, 2007 with Dr. Mumford in Mississauga, Ontario. There doesn't seem to be alot of Canadians on this site, but you are stuck with me. Good Luck to all the September Bandsters.

Brenda, thank you so much for telling me about your friend's experience. I was really concerned about the lack of the "full feeling." It's always nice to know that you're not the only one. :car: I'm looking forward to that first fill!

Right now, I'm on the mush diet. They said that that would be the most difficult of the two but I haven't found that to be true. Granted I'm only about a week down with two weeks to go so my tune may change by then.:biggrin1: At least with the mush diet you can change it up a bit more than the clear liquid diet. I didn't find either to be miserable though.

Good luck to you this Wednesday!!!! I'm so excited for you! It sounds like you have a wonderful mindset and a lot of drive to achieve your goal! You're going to do great!!! I'll be keeping an eye out here for your post letting us know how you're feeling!!!!

I was banded on Friday 21st Sept, after starting all the paperwork in May....thought it would never get here and am looking forward to the futue ! Good luck other banders in the class of Sept 2007.

I feel really good. It is unbelievable. My number one tip for you is to get up and move around as soon and as much as possible after surgery. The worst part so far has been the gas. If you are able to walk a lot you can work the gas out of you quicker. Also, have some type of OTC meds at home for post-op such as Gas X, Tagament or Carafate. My pain has been well controlled with half the pain meds that were prescribed to me. I was told to take two Vicodin every 4 hours but only did that one time. It was too much for me so I only take 1 about every 4-6 hours. I have already been walking slowly on my treadmill, and my weight today (5 days post-op) is down 11 pounds from one week pre-op. That is the good news! The bad news is that I still have cravings for junk food, like chips or peanuts. I don't have any solutions for that one but if you have any ideas, please share with me. I actually chewed up an almond and then quickly spit it out without swallowing any of it. I know that is probably not a good idea. Good luck with your banding and keep me posted. No worries, the surgery was really no worse than a D&C I once had. The gas pains are the worst of it. Be well and keep in touch!

I was just banded 5 days ago and I understand what you are saying. I was able to hold an entire cup of Soup today and could have kept eating. I was wondering if perhaps your surgeon, like mine, does not fill your band until the 6th post-op week. Also, if you are still only consuming liquids, you can hold more than actual food. Your weight loss sounds very good, as mine in that I have already lost 11 pounds counting the one week preop diet. I think your husband is probably correct. As long as you are mindful of the amount of food you are taking in, you will lose the weight. When do you go for your first fill?

My doctor said to not even worry about losing weight during the first 4-6 weeks, until after your first fill. This time is meant for healing. Just consentrate on getting down anything you can and not focus on your weight. Some people even gain weight during this time. That is very normal. Don't worry, after your first fill you will begin to see the weight come off! :car:

Just a quick note to let everyone know we have over 40 bandsters that are taking the big loser challenge for Oct!! WE ARE ALL AWESOME! Wait till everyone reads about what we accomplished in October!!!!!!

Just image what you will look and feel likethis time next year!!!!! All healthy skinny minnies!!ha

I am scheduled to be banded tomorrow- 9/24/2007. Was just checking around for support groups and stuff and ran across this site. Started reading and all of you that have been banded and are doing so good is a real inspiration. To those of us still pending- see you on the flip side of life. Good luck.:whoo:

Thanks! Well, yesterday was horrible for me, I was not hungry but that old food addiction was surely making me feel miserable.....just wanted something more than liquids. My sister was terriffic and was very supportive, she had bypass about a year ago, most importantly, drink/eat when you are due to, waiting an extra 15 minutes was bad for me, and keep lots of variety of thngs you like, I alternate between broth, pudding, Jello and yogurt.       I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
