What snacks or food to eat on the go

I am a driver and I'm 7 weeks out from having the gastric sleeve, I wanted to know if someone can please tell me what Snacks I can eat on the go. I am just getting over puree food but still other foods are to heavy on my stomach.

I am also wondering what beverage to drink to replace pop in which I'm craving for pop now?

Snacks derail my weight loss.

Did them this week....and am pissed off with myself.

I used the excuse that I was working 14-16 hour days. Dumb arse excuse.

Peanuts and trail mix were the Snacks. I was an idiot. Grabbed what was convenient and didn't plan ahead.

Very stressful week that has me contemplating needing to make a career change.

3 meals and no snacks is what works best for me. Meals are the correct size that my surgeon has told me to eat. He said that as I get further out into the one year mark that I can add snacks of crunchy vegetables.

As I'm squarely in the weight loss time frame there is no point in eating snacks. That's simply counter to what I'm trying to do. Once I hit maintenance, then snacks to maintain a certain weight makes since.

Right now.....hell no.

This is just my take on it....and my surgeon's.....and applicable to just me. You gotta decide what your own goals are and what you need to do to reach them. Seems way early to be talking snacks, though.

Dub. I am in a similar place at my work - trying so hard to make a change! I spend so much time at work, it's difficult to have things be so lousy.

to the OP, for me if I don't have a meal, snack, meal, snack, meal then my weight loss STOPS. I don't eat much at a time, but I seem to need to spread it out. Some days it is hard to get everything with my liquids in.

I try to pack up my Snacks, and honestly most of my meals on the weekend so I can just fill my cooler in the morning. for me Snacks have been either a Power Crunch Protein bar (because I love the triple chocolate) a Protein shake, light string cheese with 2 pieces of lunch meat, a small serving of cottage cheese with oh, maybe 3 strawberries, or 1/4 of a banana, or else I will have 1 ounce of almonds and one ounce of dried cherries, or maybe an extra small serving of lima Beans. I don't know how this will change as things move along - I am only almost 3 months since surgery- but this, for now keeps me loosing weight. There's only been 3 different weeks I didn't loose and it was always when I cut out my snacks.

as for beverage I *really* like Vitamin Water zero. the LEMONADE is my favorite! they are sweetened with stevia- Walmart has the best price for the multipacks.

I hope you get some more ideas, because it is all so much easier when things are planned out and you don't have to try to figure food out on the go and stressed. Off to pack my lunch box now!

I really struggle with wanting junk food when I drive long distances (for work mostly). I have an insulated cooler that I carry. I usually take a couple of Premier Protein ready to drink shakes (depending on how long I will be gone); deli turkey; 2% sharp cheddar cheese bars; packets of tuna; Mr Cheese O's ; apple slices and individual packets of almond or peanut butter; 1 oz packets of almonds or cashews (cashews are softer and easier to eat early out); and Krave Beef Jerky (again measured in 1oz packets - this jerky is very tender). Now the trick is not to graze and snack the whole time you are driving. Put the cooler where you cUt reach it unless you have to pull over and can get one thing out. I am 11 months out and still working on this one. Mostly I want to stop at a gas station and buy Cheetos!! For drinks, I usually stop at Sonic and get a large Unsweet ice tea (if you are allowed caffeine). Or I will get a large ice Water at Sonic and dump in a package of Crystal Light (I love Peach Green Tea, Raspberry Green Tea and Pink Lemonade).

Hope that gives you some ideas of what you can travel with and avoid the road hazards of fast food and junk food! It IS a struggle but it is totally worth it!

I too have to have two Snacks during the day or I stall out because I eat so little at meal times. I have things like the light baby bell cheese, or Greek yogurt. A lot of people do the turkey sticks or Jerky. If your driving all day i would recommend getting a small cooler bag to keep with you each day and pack it the night before. Also the tin packs of tuna and salmon are good as well. The Vitamin Water zeros are very good and help when you want something more then the plain water.

If you can have a cooler with you, I like those yogurt smoothies. they have ones for kids that are in a little bottle so I can actually finish one

Other than that, you may have to wait a few more weeks, but beef/turkey Jerky is good. It's also a source of Protein.

as for soda cravings, I find that crystal light or other powders help with the craving for sweets. Carbonated drinks still don't sit well with me so I try to avoid soda.

Pork rinds bagged up in serving size zip locks is another option.

I keep the little packets of Crystal Light type drinks in the all three cars, so I won't be without something to flavor Water.

Everyone gave you great ideas and @@Daisee68 pointed out something I have been doing at work. I put my stash in my locker which is about 150ft away or I will eat Snacks all day.

Nuts are so easy to eat too many of unless I hide the rest.

@@Bizziebe27 - I have not had my surgery yet so not sure if this is really a good option but I heard on a blog about these parm puffs that are pretty low in calorie and high in Protein. I plan to order these when I am back on solids. Also, string cheese is easy for on the go.

Snacks for me are usually chopped fruit or the small packs of celery and carrots from the local grocery stores, just go easy on the dip that they usually include.

Nuts are so easy to eat too many of unless I hide the rest.

I keep mine in the back or the fridge or the freezer. I measure out my servings into small plastic containers, and have them with a few dried cherries. a good snack.

When I go on motorcycle trips I pack some food items with me in case I can't find good options on the road:

- Premier Protein (11 oz container)

- Crystal Light liquid squeeze bottle (add to plain water)

- Unjury Protein powder (individual package to mix with water)

- Almonds (small portion ~100 calories)

- Beef Jerky

- Quest Protein Bar

Sometimes I end up bringing most of these items home with me, but its nice to have some options while you are on the road.

Those were really good until they changed the formula. Now they are terrible. Like chewing cardboard. Medifast makes some good products, but not that one. Also their prices have gone up about five dollars in the last few years.

Sf Hawaiian Punch packets are better to me than crystal light. I also make high Protein sf/ff pudding with unjury and eat Greek yogurt and the 4 ounce cottage cheeses. All high Protein and good Snacks.

I'm in the car most of the day every day and I carry Oscar Meyer Cutting Board Grilled chicken. There are 2 types that say Cutting Board and one of them looks pretty discusting so its NOT that one, its the other one! lol Its 6oz for like $3 at Walmart and I divide it up into 2 or 3oz servings and also take string cheese. I also take Smithfields Ready, Set, GO that is a piece of sliced turkey or ham with cheese and its rolled up and costs about $1 at Walmart. I also have found some chicken salad premade at Whole Foods and at Central Market that are good and I weigh out 2 to 3oz of that and I carry these in a small cooler with Blue Ice. I take my lunch every day. I really cannot eat out because it takes very little to stall my weight loss or I might even bounce up 1-3 lbs so I have to eat very clean. Hope this helps.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
