Hello ladies and gents. Wondering how much Fluid u guys could drink a day after surgery. My tummy hurts and I only drank 14 Oz in 24 hours. Plus I have hiccups after 1 very small sip of Water. Insight needed. I'm about to tell my nurse after they change shifts. Just thought I'd ask.

If u fail to plan, u plan to fail.

Not sure what I was getting in the day after surgery, but no one was concerned because I was so loaded with IV fluids at that point. I know it was day 5 before I was up to 60oz. But believe me, it took a conscious effort to sip all day long. I had a bottle by my bed that I started the moment I opened my eyes and didn't stop until I fell asleep each night. If I missed sipping for even one hour out of the day it was difficult to catch up.

And if you are having a hard time, try different things. For me, I couldn't tolerate plain Water for about 4 months and warm stuff (broth and herbal tea) went down easier. Good luck!

I was only able to drink about 6 oz total the two days I was in the hospital. Each tiny little sip hurt so much. But by my second day home, it had gotten much better, and I've been able to get in at least 64 oz since then (I'm on day 6 right now). Using a straw once I got home helped a lot. I know some programs frown on them, but, honestly, I think I take in more air when I am sipping than when I use a straw.

Finding good temperatures also helped. My sleeve likes things either ice cold or piping hot, but anything in between and I can't do it.

So 14 oz in 24 hours seems like a great start to me, and it should only get easier from here on out.

My first day home was yesterday, I only got in about 24 oz of water/protein. Hoping to do better each day until I hit the required 64 oz. I have heard that it may take a few days to get there. Good luck to you! :)

I found myself in the strange predicament of being able to drink as much as I wanted to - a liter (a quarter gallon for you US folks) in fifteen minutes was no problem. I'm having the same experience now, 10 days after surgery.

Had my surgery on 5/3, day after I could drink without getting full, every once and a while I would get a burp or tight pain in my stomach kinda felt like a hunger pain. But all fluids would stay down.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
