Howdy, Susie! I do read the boards here lately but I guess since most of the initial questions/uncertainties have gone away I'm not on here nearly as much as I was in the past. The 23rd of this month will be my 6-month banding anniversary and I still feel that this was the best thing I have ever done! I have about 15-20 pounds left to go to meet my goal. I am down to a size 10/12 in clothes and feel great! I have a total of 7cc in my 10cc band and definately believe this is the "sweet spot" for me! I am full after eating 1/4/-1/2 cup of food- which is something I never thought would happen to me! I find myself wanting to tell everyone about the lapband and how wonderful it is! I do need to work on my excercise, though- I was doing really good with it but have dropped off the last 2 weeks. I plan to start back at it again serious come Monday! Congrats on your weight loss- you are doing great! Don't you just love Dr. King! Howdy to all the rest of the MS folks also!

Mary

HI there...I have not been here in about 2 or 3 weeks...I have finally gotten my 3rd fill and it's a tough one. I can't hardly eat--but the good thing--I'm loving it. I would have never thought---an apple sauce would fill me up in the am...I eat one 4-oz cup at about 5:15...then a second one around 7:15. After that I can take any required medication and my Vitamin B complex...Somedays--I can't eat at lunch time--I just can't or don't have an appetite. I keep Water going in the system for sure. But every other morning--walking the treadmill, lifting light weights....Then coming home by 9am...sometimes I'll get a nap. Since there has been the triple digit temps-my kids have asked for sandwiches--telling me it's too hot for dinners. So now the freezer and deep freezer stays full. Who would have known---my food bill would be this low? My kids are 9 and 11 yr old boys. They say--they are happy with the food they have. They have their days when I wonder--where does all the food go to. I have had days when I bake two medium pizza's--yes two and the boys eat 85% of them. Leaving maybe 3 peices. I have eating some pizza--but surprisingly--the top only. The break= not my style. It gets stuck and it hurts too bad going down--so I avoid it all together.

Will I make that magical 3.2 pounds a week? So far I figured out my average for the past weeks--starting April 1st--I have averaged 2.25 each week.My goal is to get to that elusive--3.0 to 3.2...The Dr said that may be too much. But if I continue with this small meal plan....it'll be there for sure with the third fill making me go hard with the loss of weight.

Well in my last statements...People I know hardly know what to say. Some say the smarter things. But somehow there is a large majority who say the stupidest things. From Drug use, crack, am I sick from HIV---am I scared of what others are saying about me? I said to the Guy who asked that---"Hey--I don't know you people anyway--I just live here in the apartment complex and I sleep very well.....

Hello, Betty Lue! I was banded August 17--and cannot wait to get my first fill--not til Oct. 1st--from Dr. George Woodman in Memphis. When did you have surgery--and how much have you lost? I am SOOOOOOOOOO ready to have some restriction--as I really can eat whatever I want--and know that I shouldn't. Those first 2 weeks were really nice when you just couldn't eat!

Hi Rogers11 had my surgery Oct 2006 in Acunia Mx. I've lost a todal of 70 lbs. I've got about 15 to go. I've had 2 fills. I think the band is the greatest thing they ever came out with! When you get that first fill be careful what you eat. what you eat today you may not be able to eat it when you get your fill. You'll see what I mean. Good Luck!

Hi Betty Lou,

You said your Dr. is Dr. Carrel, do you mean Dr. Carroll at River Oaks Hospital? I'm having my 1st. Dr. Appt. with him on Sept 24th. to start the process. If so you are the 2nd. person I have heard about at that Hospital. No, maybe 3 people.

I live in Puckett about 40 minutes away.

See my posting in the other MS. link under skinnydippn42.

Nice to hear from someone close.

Don

Hi,

My 1st. Doc's meeting went fine. Having my Psychology testing done on Oct. 3rd., my 43rd Wedding Annv.

Too add to a busy month I'm having a Colonascopy on Sept. 27th. Everything coming around fast now. My Family Doc wanted me to have it as one of my Annual test. My Banding Doc., Dr. Carroll wanted me to have it before the banding. Well set up an appt. wth the Dietition soon. Might be Banded in early Nov.

Progress is being made. My Insurence Co. & Medicare said that they will cover 100% of the cost, let's hope that realy is the case.

Hi Y'll,

My Doc has submitted the papers to my Ins. Co. & Medicare, just waiting for thier reply.

I seen the shrink yesterday (10-03-07) as part of my Pre-op. I was there 4 hrs and had to answer over "700" Yes or No questions :faint:on paper plus a few orel questions from the Doc. Then........ went to Sam's and did a little shopping, this is the way I spent my 43rd. wedding Anaversary.

BUT......... When I arrive home, I rang the door bell and when my wife answered the door I had "two doz rosses" in my hand. Made Her day. :biggrin1:

That's the latest update from this arena; just playing the old waiting game.

Hi,

After I came home the Doc gave me an large envelope with more papers to fill out that I have not looked at yet.

It was about 10-12 more page to fill out and mail back to him. It took me another 2 Hrs. to fill out those papers. This batch went into great detial on my passed eating habits, Family, on & on & on. Glad to have that over with. :faint:

Going to my Family Doc Monday (10-08-07) to update my Annual checkup so He can send a letter to Dr. Carrell saying that I'm healthy enough for the surgery. Still waiting for the Ins. Co. to "OK" everything.

Don

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
