It's been over a week since I have had a bm. Passing lots of gas, but nothing else. I was sleeved on March 31st. Basically when I went on purée foods, I stopped having bm. Do I wait it out or try laxatives?

Ya gotta poo!

Metamucil and a good quality probiotic got things moving for me.

I went through 2 awful weeks of Constipation. Used dulcolax to finally "go" and then started taking a stool softener daily and haven't had any issues since!

Milk of Magnesia & Colace (not peri-colace, which is a laxative & stool softener). From what my doctor said about laxatives, it actually does your body a disservice b/c they start to train the bowel muscles to depend on the laxative--but I think it's more dangerous for continued use than just occasional. I used peri-colace in the beginning twice out of sheer desperation after lots of milk of magnesia, benefiber & Miralax Fiber supplements. I didn't realize that peri-colace was a laxative! The colace stool softer works like magic w/ no cramping or discomfort! Good Luck!!!!

My doctor has me taking colace 100 mg twice per day. Also the nutritionist has added flax meal to my diet. Start with one teaspoon working your way up to two tablespoons per day. She also had me two ounces of warm (must be warm) prune juice before bed. Things are definetly getting better. I was sleeved February 29th.

My doc recommended either milk of magnesia or glycerine suppositories. I bought both. Didn't want to force anything else in my stomach so tried the suppository. Super easy, worked in like 3 minutes. No pain. Haven't had to use it again.

I love you all more than I used to love jellybeans... And I LOVED jellybeans. Thank you for these tips... Who else is going, without making teenage boy jokes all these suggestions? No one but fellow sleevers! Da hubby is going out for prune juice now. It's 11:43 at night so if he slips and cracks a potty joke I'm going to forgive him. ;)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
