My daughter was sleeved on 4/4/16. Has been having nausea dry heaving. The recovery nurse showed her a trick with alcohol prep pads. Just rips one open sticks it under her nose. Works wonders. Hope this helps some one else. Good luck every one

That's what they used on me in recovery too! Worked like a charm!

Omg! Girl, I feel you. I was the same when I got out of my surgery. I regretted it until probably my 3rd month completely. I'm now a year out and can tell you it does get better for most. It has definitely become the best thing I ever did and my mother did it at the same time did.

It just takes progress. Your stomach needs time to heal and get used to everything again.

You just need to focus on the positives and trust me, cry and scream and find someone who will just hold you through it. It always feels better then

Good luck!

To the OP: Call your doctor! You may have a stricture or something else going on. I never threw up post op. I also never had the slimes either. I had a super easy post-op experience and kept down everything I attempted to eat. My practice had me practicing eating slow before surgery so I was super careful not to eat too fast post -op.

I also completely agree with @VSGAnn2014 - I have never heard of anyone not being allowed chicken for a full year. That's usually the second animal Protein allowed.

Sorry to hear you’re having regrets! You’re very welcome to express your frustration and anger and regret here, since that’s what we’re here for. But I’d also remind you that it’s done, so the best thing you can do for yourself now – whether or not surgery was a mistake – is to be as healthy as you can.

On a positive note, the period you’re going through now is often the worst for many sleeve patients. Once you get through it and you’re losing weight and feeling stronger and not in pain, you may feel better about it. I hope so!

But by all means keep feeling free to express whatever’s on your mind here!

Getting the sleeve has been the biggest regret of my life. I wish i could warn everyone and I will. If you want the new normal to be throwing up all the time and being sick then this is the choice for you. I am so mad at myself for not having enough self control to just stop eating so much and to just work out. Im 3 weeks post op and i just am so mad at myself, the insurance company and everyone. Yes you lose weight but at what cost?

Kindest regards, phuckyourtruth

It's only been 3 weeks and of course it's gonna be hard a surgeon literally cut out your stomach. You really need to try and see the positives and tell yourself it'll get better. There are people who wish they could be in a position to say they are losing weight. I haven't personally had it -yet, on in progress of getting an approval- but my mother has and she had the same regrets at first but now she's over 100 pounds down and would never go back. I hope you feel better.

I am 12 days post op and can certainly respect what you are saying. I had so much trouble with a prescription they gave me and was throwing up twice a day from it but I talked to my doctor and we are trying another script and I am fine. I can't drink the Protein shakes I gag immediately after smelling it. So I am working on other options. You are not alone with having trouble, just try to hang in there and each day it should improve.

Go to your doctor. You should get thru this period soon. If not, you have a complication that needs to be taken care of. Most people do no feel sick three weeks out.

Thanks for the support yes i saw my dr today and he said i have no complications and im doing good but i feel miserable it may be a phase but i am on purée stage so only baby food and liquids but i have been throwing up every single morning and my dr said thats normal just take nausea meds but i have done that and still cant keep enough liquids down. I talked to one of my friends Who had the surgery and NOW she tells me she is sick everyday no matter what and always has stomach issues. She then took off her wig and showed me all the bald Patches from hair loss due to not getting Protein in. I wish she would have been more honest with me before surgery about her complications rather than just coming over every week slimmer and acting happy when she is not. I was furious. I just need to get through this. I need some support possible idk

Kindest regards, phuckyourtruth

I truely understand when you are coming from. I was the exact same way dehydration was a huge cause of my issues as well as what felt like pregnancy nausea. Regret was a staple in my life for the 1st 2 months until the light switch as I like to call it flipped back on. Through a lot of prayer and figuring out what my monster tummy would or could tolerate. I felt exactly like you do now and thisbisbthe last thing you want to hear but it will get better. Make sure you are staying hydrated small sips frequently it truely will help. Maybe you should see if there is a support group you can attend and see if you are covered to see a psychologist sometimes talking to someone really helps.

please hang in there and give your doctor/bariatric nurse a call in the AM.

I am 2 years post sleeve and never once had any vomiting related to my surgery, nor did i lose significant amounts of hair. Everybody is different, and you can get through this with the help of your doc and clinic staff.

it's possible that you are significantly dehydrated AND your pouch is significantly inflamed right now, and that will take quite a while to go down, so in the meantime you need to find what works.

At that point post op, I used Syndrax nectar Fuzzy Navel Protein mix in my Water with sugar free Orange Kool Aid drops for flavor and it was awesome. I literally had sips only every 10 minutes or so...

I just want to say i am so thankful for all of the replies and I love this site! I want to say now that i am on solid foods I am no longer sick and feel soo much better. I am also no longer regretting having this surgery which was a gift because i now realize how unhealthy i was doing my body before. I will say the first 3 weeks are the hardest but into week 4 it gets sooo much better!

So glad to hear you are feeling better. Solid foods was a real turning point for me too. There will still be a lot of trial and error figuring out how much to eat, how fast to eat, and what to eat. But it definitely starts to feel like "normal" is possible again once you are on solids. Just don't get discouraged again if your weight loss stalls. It's pretty common around 3-4 weeks out to see a stall. Don't panic. Just stick to your plan!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
