Hey everyone!! I am having my surgery in May and just thought that it would be nice to have a group to have to support each other through this!! Who's in?

im having mine May 24th...my preop is 2 weeks...started 2day.

My surgery is on May 24th. I will have a 2 week pre-op liver reduction diet. I am excited but nervous. I have only today a few people, most of which have been amazingly supportive and understanding. I can't wait to officially be on the losers bench!

I'm in Buffalo, Ny. I started my 2 week diet yesterday and it is going okay! I really want to eat something crunchy, but it'll all be worth it in the end!!

How long is everyone's preop diet?

I have a 14 day clear liquid diet.

well I had the last of my preop appointments yesterday. They did an ekg, some bloodwork, pregnancy test etc. I met with surgeon and anesthesiologist and multiple nurses and the nutritionist. So now I am just counting down the hours! On Monday morning I go in at 750am and will have surgery at 950! My bff comes to visit tomorrow and we are going hiking and then I am clear liquids on Sunday. I can't believe it is almost here!

My RNY Bypass was May 10th and thought I would let everyone know how it went. Surgery was at 12:30 in the afternoon and I was released from hospital by 2:00 the next afternoon. I did a lot of walking the halls soon after surgery and I really think that helped. I actually felt better walking than I did sitting. I had no nausea or vomiting whatsoever and still have not. I used pain meds for a couple days. After that the pain was bearable. Mainly gas pains and walking definitely helps with that. I have had no trouble getting all my water in, but I do sip all day long. The hardest part has been keeping on the schedule of meds, food, protein drinks and liquids. Took me a bit to get my meds straight and figure out the best schedule for me. I'll be glad when I can stop some of the meds.

Honestly - I can't believe how well I have done. I feel great, walking the neighborhood. Going to the drug store today to pick up some things, my first venture out alone. I am thankful for my amazing talented surgeon!

Don't be afraid, it's never as bad as you think it might be. For me, it wasn't bad at all.

Hope you all have great results!!

Hi all,

I had my surgery on May 13... I had lap band removal, gastric bypass and gall bladder removal. Recovery has been though... First day wasn't that bad because I slept a lot that day after anesthesia and pain pump. I have been walking a lot as well but still haven't been able to pass gas which is one of the things that need to happen. I did pass my upper GI so I am allowed clear liquids. I am pretty swollen so I can't get much down, last night for dinner I had 2 oz of broth and could not fit another 2, it was amazing. So far no nausea or coming which is great. The hardest part is getting up and down from bed or chair because you use a lot of abdominal muscles. When pain meds wear out its not fun so looks like I will be taking those for few more days and I usually have pretty high pain tolerance. As you can see, recovery varies between individuals, my surgeon has also done a great job but my surgery was more complex. Lasted about 2 hours. Just wanted to give you feedback. Hope it all goes well for you :) have not been hungry yet so still not regretting it even though it's hard right now.
