8 weeks post-op (sleeve)

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum and just celebrated 8 weeks post-op! I am both happy with my weight loss (30 pounds so far) and impatient at the same time. Can anyone else relate?

Now that I can eat more normal foods again I am probably not getting as much Water as my body needs but I am able to hit 50-60 grams of Protein each day.

I have been hesitant to start exercising because I still feel heavy and awkward... But I know it's time! Looking for some moral support and accountability- which is why I am here! :-)

Try hydralyte iceblocks from the chemist. Like a frozen gatorade. Helps with hydration, they say. I have 3 boxes in my freezer for next week.

Try to start slowly exercising. It will help. I started the gym 4 months after surgery and I can't believe how much it has helped define my results. I added a pic for you to see post-244766-14592072221851_thumb.jpg

50-60 grams of Protein seems low. What is your Protein target? (Mine is 100 grams.)

It is important that you do everything you can to get in both your protein and fluids. It isn't easy but it is doable. I have to make it my number one priority.

Exercise also helps. Once my incisions healed and I was cleared to swim I have been in the pool. I started with Water aerobics, etc. and now I swim laps and take an occasional Water aerobics class regularly. It feels great!

Hi @innersurfergirl I am wondering how you are doing with your hair considering your high protein intake? Have you managed to avoid or minimise hair loss!?

Duodenal switch surgery 4 Days post op. I'm home moving around with no pain and meds....holding down my liquid very good. I'm looking forward to the weight to start falling off. My face already dropped some pounds. I'm feeling great and looking forward to the start of my new journey. Going back to work April 25th.

Don't have a date yet but trying to change eating habits...doing good with the food choices....but can't get that water intake where it needs to be. 2/3 glasses and feel like I'll float away....and stay in the bathroom.

Thanks everyone! Really happy I made the decision to have the sleeve surgery. Work trips have been a little tricky but as long as I stick to Protein and veggies I'm ok!

I'm 4 days post op too. Shocked how little pain I had. Only thing I'm not clear on is when to start the Vitamin supplements

Check with your surgeon since they all have different views depending on the person. I started the week of puréed foods.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
